A love story without that lovey-dovey stuff. A mystery unfolded, with a man who was dumped by the love of his life married another man. And then he tried to find her when the man she supposed to have married died. The twist and turn a quite good. A lot of fun as the readers were kept in the dark a...
I have never read a book with a more annoying male protagonist than this one. He is pretentious, frumpy, arrogant, selfish and delusional. Yet the story is compelling, because who doesn't want to believe that a lost love can be recaptured, against all odds? It's just that...life is more complicat...
I really enjoyed the Hitchcockian beginning to this one - and I'd say that vertiginous spell was carried for roughly 2/3 of the story. Not bad. But at some point, Coben had to show us the hand he held, and, well... it was a bit anticlimactic. Still, a nice read. Scott Brick narrates in his smooth-as...
"I sat in the back pew and watched the only woman I would ever love marry another man." The burning questions of this novel... Why did Natalie leave and where is she now? Well, I think as an outsider it was easy to guess why she left. But I can see why the protagonist had a hard time figuring it ...
One of hubby's reads. This one was so out there that he talked to me about it!! Apparently the male MC meets the Female MC and they date for a couple of weeks. Three, IIRC. Then the female MC says, "Dude, I'm getting married tomorrow. I'll never see you again. Please, never try to contact ...
A college professor, Jake Fischer, has a summer fling with Natalie. He falls head-over-heels in love only to have her marry Todd Sanderson at the end of the summer. Natalie asks Jake to promise he won't bother them or try to contact her, but six years later he runs across an obituary for Todd. Wanti...
So, I've now read several books of this genre and I have finally decided I don't particularly care for it. This one in particular, which was written by what would appear to be a veteran at this type of story, was full of enough plotholes to render the whole story completely implausible. I would mu...
Truly enjoyed this mystery story. Fast paced and well constructed. The story line kept me engrossed in the plot. I read it in two sittings. Time for the next Coben book. It wasn't until I was 80% though he story that I had an inkling of where it was going.
Dear HC,Oh Harlan. You know you're my favorite author. But I have to admit, I was sorely disappointed with this one. Don't get me wrong; you sucked me in with the first 100 pages or so of the novel. But it just got to the point where I wanted you to find this mysteriously perfect, love of your life ...
