I'm still trying to decide if I owe my book club an apology for suggesting this one. On one hand, this novel includes an interesting snippet of history and some beautiful descriptions of the Pacific northwest. On the other, I almost added it to my just-keep-skimming shelf because I couldn't get over...

The novel has been compared to To Kill a Mockingbird and there are similarities in plot and theme--but I have to say I wouldn't compare the the two--Guterson's novel just isn't anywhere near as powerful as Harper Lee's classic novel. The novel is set in 1954 in Washington State and involves the mu...

Thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. Some real moments of beauty and suspense. I've read better word crafters, but Guterson creates an incredibly compelling ambiance, into which the characters and situations are woven to produce an organic, seamless whole.

wahhh chick-lit. if you want extremely sentimental descriptions of wind-blown puget sound pacific north west forests with fuzzy-focus romanticism, then this is the book for you.writing is skillful, not a two-star, but probalby perfectly located at 3/5.

People say hate is a very strong word. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this book. For me, hate isn't even the...

Set in the North of Washington State, near the border with Canada in 1954, Snow Falling On Cedars focuses on the trial of a Japanese American suspected of the murder of a local fisherman. In doing so it explores the experience of Japanese Americans during and after the Second World War and the compl...

Wow, author, A+ job of portraying a caring, healthy relationship....lol j/k.I didn't finish. When a book is literally making you feel sick because of how problematic it really is, and then you see it has a fucking 4.12 star rating on GoodReads, you just cannot go on any farther.I used to think I wa...

This book is set around the trial of Kabuo Miyamoto for murder in the first degree of Carl Heine. Interspersed through the trial are flashbacks via the memories of witnesses and also, Ishmael Chambers, a journalist covering this trial. These flashbacks expand to 10 years prior the trial - to the t...
