What first attracted me to The Young Wizards Series wasn’t the magic system, though I have to admit it is pretty amazing, but the characters. In the first book, So You Want to Be a Wizard, Kit and Nita are two teenagers who took on a great deal of responsibility without quite realizing the consequen...

Contemporry urban fantasy for kids, starring two 12-year-olds living on Long Island. Well who doesn't want to discover a book they've never seen before at the library, one that tells you all about careers in wizarding? It's a cool idea, and I really enjoyed reading it, but in some way I can't explain...

The book reminded me a lot of A Wrinkle in Time. There was a lot of ‘science’ in the book. I was surprised at how dense in made the reading. I had a really hard time getting past the fantasy of the book. It’s not that it was bad because it wasn’t at all. It just wasn’t my type of magic or fantasy so...

A great fantasy series. I love the magic system. It's so believable and plausible and fits so seamlessly into the real world. And I really enjoy Kit and Nita and the friendship they develop.

This is one of the first fantasy books that really resonated with me. I remember reading in voraciously in my room. The thought that you could find a book that could change your perception of the world (both mine and the character's) was enlightening. If this one didn't start me on the path to Sc...

My daughter suggested I read this. It's a children's book, but very readable for adults, with some very clever ideas. I don't think I'd want to read the rest of the series, but I enjoyed it.
Title and Statement of Responsibility
Ok, so I finally read Diane Duane's So You Want to be a Wizard about twenty years after I probably should have. Better late than never! It's funny, because the book recalls a lot of the other books I read around that time: Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising, the books of Madeleine L'Engle, and even P...
