by Marjorie M. Liu
Another tale of a merman but with an interesting twist. M'Cal is a powerful singer of his people. He has been forced by a witch to kill people, sucking in their souls to be fed to her. When he is sent after Kit the story really evolves. I love when bards are done in a new way and Ms Lui did wonder...
It was worth the .50 cents I paid for it. It was cheesy, predictable, with a weak plot.- Yet I read the whole thing ? I really can't explain why. I was so miffed when the bad guys did the comic version of to tell the truth. They told their whole plot to the good guys, in the middle of the evil deed ...
Still liking series. A bit convoluted this go round. Interesting that person you love to hate throughout the book isn't the worse person and in an act of self sacrifice, aids H/h to defeat the real baddie.Figures, right?
Witches and a Merman added a new twist to the shifter genre. This one was action packed from the beginning. A great mystery with alot of twists and turns. Dirk & Steele crew were really secondary in this one. A really enjoyable read.
Coming back together, a more cohesive threat narrative than the previous book (is it weird that ghostly grandma's and evil witches are easier to follow and believe than psychic corporations and criminal depravity?). The complexity of the white witch was an interesting twist, and M'chal's reception ...
This was the first Marjorie Liu book I ever read and I was really impressed. I liked it so much that I got most of the series from the library and read it from start to finish. Liu's books are consistently good.
This one was more a 3.5 star for me because the lead male comes from the sea. If there is a story with mermaids or sirens, I'm all over it. Dolphin shifters or any marine mammal shifter also pulls me in. Enjoyable for me.
