A lot of people have "ragged" on this book saying that the dialogue was unbelievable, that the drama was overrought, that there was too much tragedy and that it was impossible to believe all the events could happen to one group of friends. To these nay-sayers I say pfft, whatever! This was a great ...

I like Pat Conroy. I've enjoyed most of his books. South of Broad felt a little over the top at times and a bit far fetched. I mean, how much misery can you fit into one person's life?

However, I am glad I stuck with it because I really enjoyed exploring their development. It is the kind of book I could put down on my nightstand and then pick up again...

"Silence can be measured out in shot glasses of time or it can take up space in half-gallon bottles."A good read - pretty much the same as every other Pat Conroy book, troubled angsty people living in the south w/ difficult relationships with their moms and others.
