I ended up really enjoying this, although it could have been pared down significantly. McCammon's pace was a bit leisurely even for me, and I enjoy a slow-paced tale. this book is in desperate need of editing. it is way too long. the first quarter of the book or so does not pertain to the plot of the book. It establishes the element of illness for a character, which could have been done in another way, in much less time.
