At the age of 14, she was whisked away from the city, and dropped into small town Orange, Texas, where she lived in the same house her mother was born in. Being stuck in a culture with one foot rooted in Texas, and the other foot firmly planted in Cajun Country, Spelile gained a unique perspective on life.Spelile graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in English and became a teacher. Her greatest experience was studying playwrighting with her mentor, Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright, Charles Gordone. He said of her creative writing ability, "Spelile has professional promise." Under his watchful eye, she gained an even deeper perspective on life.Raised by a family that hammered in and prospered from, the benefits of an education, Spelile decided to write inspirational stories for children. The most rewarding outcome of her writing has been the acclaim received by her first book, No Time for Monsters. Released in April 2010, No Time was placed on the Tejas Star Book Award List. In February 2011, the students of Texas voted No Time for Monsters the 2010-2011 Tejas Star Book Award winner. In addition, she is the author of The Cucuy Stole My Cascarones / El Coco me robó los cascarones, an author on the Author Pronunciation Guide site of Teachingbooks.net, and has had the pleasure of giving author presentations to children in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. These presentations give her an even more unique perspective on life.Spelile currently writes and travels to schools, libraries,and festivals conducting author presentations. The various perspectives that Spelile has gained have helped to make her stories inspirational, insightful, funny, creative, sometimes quirky, but always an experience. Spelile has something to offer all children!Spelile lives in Arlington, Texas with her husband and three beautiful daughters, who are instrumental in helping her to develop story ideas.
