I'm being kind with 3 stars. I totally get why people love this Heyer book so much; I do. But I really disliked it. It's beautifully written and the narrator of this version did a fantastic job (although her Mr. Theele kept making Peter Sellers' Sidney Wang character pop into my head; I couldn't...
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
I'm pretty sure I've read this, one of Georgette Heyer's Regency romps, but it must have been about 30 years ago. It was just as enjoyable this time. The plot is so convoluted that I won't even try to explain it all, but a bizarre and hilarious road trip is set up when Sir Gareth Ludlow sets out ...

Oh, I enjoyed this! It's been such a long time since I've read Sprig Muslin, and I forgot how delightful it is! Sir Gareth and Lady Hester are simply sweet, and I appreciate the soft way in which the romance creeps in, because the romance is not REALLY the focus of this book (strangely enough for ...

Georgette Heyer at her best, what more is there to say? This lively, two-romance, regency romp is so silly and sweet I enjoyed it most in small portions, like dessert. Amanda is a live-wire--young, determined, pretty and scandalously unattended because she’s run away from her doting grandfather hopi...

I've loved this book for years, and I still do. One of Heyer's best, not least because of the characterization: Gareth, Hester, Amanda, Hildebrand, Neil, the General, and many more—each perfectly realized. Even little Joseph. if you have never read Heyer, this is a great place to start.

Cross posted on The Dead Writers Society blog: This installment in The Heyer Read was positively delightful. There were two potential heroines here: Amanda, who was an engaging, adorable child, and Hester, the level-headed spinster, long since on the shelf. The Hero, Gareth, was one of Heyer's mos...

A hilarious Regency romance, an absolute riot of laughter. It starts as a quiet and slightly melancholy story. Seven years ago, Sir Gareth’s beloved fiance died. He grieved for her for a long time and didn’t look at any other young woman, but finally he decided to get married. He chooses Lady Hester,...

This is not one of the Georgette Heyer novels which I re-discover on a regular basis. While I have read it on more than one occasion in the past, I have never considered it to be one of my favourites. Listening to the novel on audiobook over the past couple of days, I wondered why I've not appreciat...

I know we had a copy of this book at home when I was a kid, and I must have read it, but remembered precisely nothing about it. So so so good!
