I was so disappointed by this book. I really, really wanted to like it. In fact, I loved the beginning and was immediately drawn into the story. I think one of the problems was that I expected an epic high fantasy with a little romance thrown in. It’s really not.Morgan was a strong, kick-ass heroine...
It's so hard for me to review the books in this series, it's one of my favorites and has been since the first moment I started reading them. The year wait between books was, at times, truly awful...and always worth it. This is the first book, in the first trilogy set in the Nine Kingdoms and it real...
Don't be fooled by the description. This book is actually a romance hidden under a flimsy fantasy-book disguise. I was lured in by the promise of adventure and a fantasy plot, but instead I just got endless pages of slow-building romance. Which is not a bad thing, but definitely not what I expected....
I got pulled out of this old school sword and sorcery, and found I had no urge to go back. Rather than twist my own arm and force it, I'm going to shelve this for now.
I have been having a lot of luck in the bargain books sections lately. Star of the Morning was one I happened across at B&N and couldn't resist. I'm always up for any fantasy books that sound like they are reminiscent of The Lord of The Rings and full of adventure. This book did not disappoint. While...
I came to this book looking for a fun, escapist read. The last quarter of the book met these criteria pretty well but the majority of the book was a bit of a slog. Part of the problem was perhaps that this is the first in a series so there was a lot of set-up and character development. And that’s...
Ok, I have to admit, I am actually a little afraid to review this book. This is, right now, one of my favorite series and Kurland is currently my favorite author. I could list the reasons why I love Kurland's work, but for now, suffice to say, two books a year published reliably? Can't complain abou...
review posted over at alternative readStar of the Morning is the first book in a romantic fantasy trilogy. It centers on Miach and Morgan. Miach is the archmage of Neroche and brother to the king. He spends most of the time doing magic and seeing to that the border is protected, as dark powers from...
Good solid start to a series. For a romantic fantasy, the romance part was slow moving. But it is only the first book and there's plenty of room for the relationship to grow. The characters are interesting, one in particular is obnoxious. I'm interested in seeing how things develop.
