Stephen Soucy, founder of Modernist Enterprises, is a Los Angeles and New York-based publisher and filmmaker. Stephen earned his graduate degree in Professional Writing and Screenwriting from the University of Southern California and an undergraduate degree in English from the State University of Albany.Stephen is a publishing professional, and has spent over ten years working for various academic outlets (Pearson, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. - and currently - SAGE Publications, Inc.) in both sales and editorial capacities. He is also Associate Faculty at Santa Monica College in the Department of Business.Under his Modernist Press, Stephen edited his first book, an anthology of short fiction, West Hollywood Stories. His second edited collection, Art From Art, published on July 19th, 2011 in the US and the UK, and features 38 writers, 38 short stories, and 38 accompanying images (created and compiled by Marcolina Design, Inc.). Each story in the book was inspired by a work of art; each image featured, is a new work of art inspired by each story.In April of 2011, Stephen wrote and directed Slant, a short film set in Palm Springs, California. The film, inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem, tells the story of a college professor in his early 50's looking for romantic connection long after the loss of his partner to AIDS. Slant has played at over 15 film festivals.
