The first, DUKE CITY SPLIT, was published by Alibi/Random House in April 2014. The second, DUKE CITY HIT, will come out in December 2014.A former journalist and humor columnist, Brewer teaches part-time in the Honors College at the University of New Mexico. Not a bad collection, but not the best one I've read. I liked about half the stories, found most of the rest just 'ok' and completely disliked one. Still, there are a few here that I'll probably re-read again in the future when I'm looking for a quick Supernatural fix.

I used to be fond of the short-mystery-with-a-twist story; I don't know if I outgrew them or this collection just wasn't very good, but after the first four stories I felt no inclination to read on.

I've only read 3 stories - the Charlaine Harris, which is the one I got the book out of the library for, and 2 others that seemed well recommended by other reviewers. I found the sheer number of stories in this book quite daunting, and therefore didn't really bother dipping into any others at all. I...
