Steven L. Danver is Academic Coordinator and Core Faculty in the Social Sciences in the College of Undergraduate Studies at Walden University. He is a historian of the American West, American Indian peoples, and the interaction of people with the environment. He earned his bachelors in Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara; his masters in Historical Studies from Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California; and his doctorate in History at the University of Utah. His dissertation, Liquid Assets: A History of Tribal Water Rights Strategies in the American Southwest, to be published by the University of Oklahoma Press, examines the long history of one of the most important issues of modern relevance to American Indians in the West.Among the most recent projects he has edited are the Encyclopedia of Water Politics and Policy in the United States (Sage, 2011) - named an American Library Association Booklist magazine Outstanding Academic Title, Native Peoples of the World: An Encyclopedia of Groups, Cultures, and Contemporary Issues (M.E. Sharpe, 2012) - named an American Library Association Booklist magazine Outstanding Academic Title and named to Library Journal's Best of Reference list, and the Encyclopedia of Politics of the American West (Sage, 2013). Since 2004 he has been managing editor of Journal of the West, a respected journal on the history of the North American West for nearly fifty years, and has always sought to publish articles that are both academically sound while at the same time interesting to the non-academic readership. Currently, Danver is working with a large number of scholars to produce the Sage Encyclopedia of Online Education, as well as authoring The American Environment for ABC-CLIO, both of which should be published in 2015.
