I'll be reading a story a day from this collection, and giving each tale a short review as I go along.7/6/2014 "Blood", by Roddy Doyle - Three stars. Very short vamp-or-something-like-a-vamp kinda story. The writing is super quick and easy to read. I dig this author's voice and style. Will be lookin...

Reviewing an anthology is not an easy task; almost no anthology is perfect. It's like that hackneyed proverbial box of chocolates: You never know what you're going to get when you start a new story. In this particular collection it's even more so, because it's all over the place, thematically speaki...

Overall this book was worth the read but like most anthologies contained its fair share of tedium. Also, the fact that i usually read genre fiction and these stories aren't genre fiction didn't help matters really. I'm not gonna go through this story by story. The best story by far was Wildfire in M...

Like most short story collections written by various authors, this one was uneven. My favorite stories came from Neil Gaiman, Al Sarrantonio, Michael Swanwick, Gene Wolf, and Joe Hill. The others could be rated on a scale of "meh" to "snore." Once again, I find Neil Gaiman's short fiction *so* much ...

A mixed bag. "Stories" from Moorcock a definite odd one out which actually quite refreshing. Especially after reading 2 stories put one after the other with similar premise;the first one was better written & more exciting though.I'm being reminded again that I prefer my short stories collection in p...

I particularly enjoyed the stories by Neil Gaiman, Joe Lansdale, and Elizabeth Hand. The stories by Joyce Carol Oates, Kurt Anderson, Carolyn Parkhurst, Tim Powers, and Joe Hill were also very good.

This collection took me forever to get through, but not because it wasn't good, just because it's an anthology. I always have trouble retaining interest in short-story collections because there's no narrative through-line. There's no reason for me to keep turning the pages. Ironically, the theme of ...

How to review this collection.....Hmm..One one level, for a reader who loves short stories (as I do), for the pure essence of the medium of storytelling, this is an excellent collection. There is no question that all the writers here know their craft, and very well. I had the pleasure of being int...

I never really know how to rate anthologies since the stories in them are so wide-ranging and varied, but I fully enjoyed this collection. It was full of solid stories and provided a lot of immersive reading.
