Since this is a retelling of a fairy tale that many readers will already know, I was hoping for a lot more suspense. The majority of the story dragged or had me rolling my eyes at how stupid the main character was being. Overall, I still liked the book and its setting.

While part of it can be attributed to the fact that Bernard doesn’t allow Sophia to venture out...

This was well written and descriptive but it was as dull as a brick. Even without knowing the Bluebeard story I could predict the ending and because of Sophia's lack of things to do the book itself was just very boring in the middle. I was very disappointed

3 1/2 stars. I have never read the original Bluebeard story so I have nothing to compare this one to, but I quite enjoyed Strands of Bronze and Gold. I almost gave it 4 stars, but knocked a half star off because there were times that I got really aggravated with the main character for staying when s...
