This books offers little tidbits of information into the childhood of the boys. It gives you an insight into John's mind which you don't really get much in the show. It enjoyed that and the monster lore mixed through out. The entries about Mary were all of course heart wrenching.
If you find yourself obsessed with Supernatural--which I am--this is a great piece of backstory, containing both entries about their life as well as collected bits of lore that ties in to a lot of the episodes as well as things that I kind of expect to see in future episodes.
