About all I can be bothered to say is this was really disappointing. When you find yourself wanting to smack the majority of the characters it might be a sign it's time to let go of a series...

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. I am so annoyed at myself. So I like most of Susan Hill books so I saw this on NetGalley and went gimme without realizing this is part of a series. I really wish that NetGalley would let you send books ba...

I'm planning out my 2020 reading challenge(s), and I decided I'm going to read all of Tracy Chevalier's books (the ones I haven't already read). To try and give myself a jump start, I thought I'd give these short stories a read. I started with Tracy Chevalier's and it wasn't bad (not great either, b...

This is the fourth bookish memoir I've read in about two weeks - for some reason I am presently obsessed with them, and when a reading obsession occurs, one must simply give in. This is by far the best of the four and I would venture a guess that I will have to look long and hard to find one that ...

There were things I really liked about this book - the journey through a house full of bookcases, where many of the books Hill owns evoke memories of when and where she read them, or meeting the authors themselves. At times it feels like a who's who, but is enjoyable in spite of that. I have ordered...

Honestly I am annoyed that I didn't just wait for this via the library, but since my house is empty of furniture and my bookshelves are wrapped up, I don't want to have a pile of books just sitting around from the library. "The Small Hand" starts off very well and then flounders from there to a very...

This wasn't a bad book at all. It just took far too long to get going. It wasn't until right around the 60% mark or so that I began to get really invested. The writing was lovely, very descriptive and flowing, but the narration of Paul Ansdell is what really lifted this above a 3 star read for me.

This book is actually a collection of 4 short stories:A Travelling Bag,Boy Twenty-one, Ann Baker and The Front Room. And although they do not occur in a 19th century setting they do have a very Victorian atmosphere. They are absolutely delightful (if one can speak of a delightful ghost story?)If yo...
