Susan Hood has four new children's picture books launching in 2016! First up, in time for spring peepers, is LEAPS AND BOUNCE, illustrated by Matthew Cordell (Hyperion). Kirkus Reviews says, "The life cycle of a frog becomes a joyful, energetic celebration of growing up." On May 3, Simon and Schuster releases Susan's first nonfiction picture book—ADA'S VIOLIN: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguary, illustrated by Sally Wern Comport. This is the extraordinary true tale of children living on a garbage dump in one of the poorest slums in South America and the man who saved them by creating musical instruments from the trash. Profiled on 60 Minutes, the children formed an orchestra and are now performing around the world! In a starred review, School Library Journal called the book "a virtuoso piece of nonfiction, gloriously told and illustrated." Available in both English and Spanish editions. On July 5, MISSION: BACK TO SCHOOL, illustrated in adorable watercolors by Mary Lundquist pubs from Random House. Then on November 8, THE FIX-IT MAN hits the shelves, with illustrations from Arree Chung of NINJA fame (HarperCollins).Looking ahead, 2017 brings a new picture book from Candlewick and Susan's first middle grade novel to be published by Simon and Schuster. Fun, lively story about an axolotl who is not as monstrous as he'd like others to believe, but I think I enjoyed the informative back matter on the animal characters more. Includes a glossary of Spanish words used in the text. Great illustrations by Melissa Sweet.

They book is okay, but the title makes me think of the Turtles, and the Turtles make me happy. As does stomping in puddles. Why don't adults do more of that? We can, you know, there's no one to tell us not to. "She stays, love grows, under my umbrella"
