I am happy to announce the publication of "Spirit of the Earth: Paintings & Poems of Susan Hubble Pitcairn," 185 full color pages, June 2013. It is the fruit of decades of painting and writing, a dream since childhood. Available on Amazon or direct from me, signed (Susan Pitcairn Studio as the seller) for $17.01 plus shipping. I grew up in Arizona, in love with its vast natural beauties. As a teenager I'd spend endless hours painting landscapes from the latest copy of "Arizona Highways." So after living most of my adult life on the West Coast, it was like "coming home" when my husband and co-author RICHARD PITCAIRN (http://drpitcairn.com) and I moved to the earthly paradise of Sedona in 2006 so that I could more easily develop as artist, also thanks the phenomenal success of "Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats." My focus now is to express the beauty and principles of nature and life through several media: primarily landscape painting, but also poetry and exhibits that combine these with music and readings. In 2009 and 2010 I created a couple of popular print-on-demand books, "The Poetry of Place," ($30) and "To Befriend Eternity," ($30) which combine my art and poetry of the landscape. "Spirit of the Earth," (2013, $24.50)) is my first venture into full-scale publishing, a colorful 185 page exploration of a lifetime of art and poetry.Being an artist is a lot of fun, when I don't get too caught up the egoic aspects of it. And I've had a lot of outer success from the decision to follow my dreams, including several blue ribbons at the Sedona Arts Center, national recognition in Paint the Parks, international sales and repeated invitations to the prestigious Sedona Plein Air Festival.
But my greatest reward has been those moments when someone looks at a painting or reads a poem and somehow it touches their soul. That's all I've ever wanted to do, ever since visions that would come to me in childhood. I'd be sitting in church and thinking, "Wow, wouldn't it be neat (this was before the term "awesome") if instead of the sermon and choir, they'd have a big screen up front with inspirational messages and poems, images of nature and beautiful music?" WWW.SUSANPITCAIRN.COM:I also invite you to check out my work at http://susanpitcairn.com. There you can find my art portfolio, blog, classes, events, studio tour information, books and a free PDF download of "Awaken to Beauty," based on a series of "ahas" about three simple principles that apply to all that is beautiful, as well as to life in general. And if you're in Sedona, I invite you to contact me for a tour of my studio: susan (at)susanpitcairn.com.
