America and Americans and Selected Nonfiction is two different books. One is Steinbeck's final book, a collection of essays published in 1966 entitled America and Americans. In this slender volume, Steinbeck's thoughts on the state of America were originally paired with photographs by acclaimed phot...

The topic of John Steinbeck's final novel is amazingly acute today although it was first published more than fifty years ago... it's a novel revolving around morals in a money-centred modern world. The Winter of Our Discontent is the story of a good and honest man who finds his morals corrupted by...

Much better book than expected. Steinbeck was way ahead of his time, and these essays could have been written now, in this frightful present day. I found these essays to ring especially true regarding the state of our country, the good old USA. Though a difficult, and rather too-intense an individu...

I very much enjoyed this novel. A study in morality, it is both humorous and heart breaking. Steinbeck is a true master of his art. An absolutely perfect piece.

Last novel for Steinbeck, cynical and ever more unbelievable, without the passion for wet fields which can so often send him flying into the corn.

I want to love this novel. There are some really neat things about it, like how he hints at the climax so slowly and deliberately and then he completely undercuts its. I like how you don't always know what the narrator is thinking. I like how he switches up narrators. Lots of stuff. But I don't...

I enjoyed this book and its story of friendship, brotherly bonds, hard work, hardship, sacrifice and difficult decisions. I'm not sure I've ever read a book and wanted so much for a different ending though. This one broke my heart.Lennie and George are best friends traveling around for work during t...
