Not any too deep, the characters barely defined, and the word usage sometimes making me wonder if English was Leiber's second language. But perhaps entertaining enough. The book is made up of three parts: one apiece for the previous history of both characters, and the final one in which they meet. Bu...

The book which introduced Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser as they adventure across Nehwon.Starting with the pair as adolescents in their own lands, it shows how they came to bump into each other one fateful night in Lankhmar and join together for the thrill of adventuring and danger. The prose is a bit ov...

In the end, a very nice introduction to Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser that at times, particularly in I'll-met in lanhkmar, felt very howard-esque. It left me impressed and looking forward to more.

I may pick up the next book in this series, but I wasn't in love with it. I much prefer Leiber's sci-fi and horror stories.

Though not widely read anymore, Leiber's Fantasy stories have had a huge influence on the genre. There probably would not be Rouge, Thief, or Assassin classes in Dungeons & Dragons if Leiber had not written the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series. The first collection includes "Ill Met in Lankhmar" ...
