A very interesting look at how the Sybil story came about. The book read like a fiction story, but seemed to be well research and informative. It is amazing to believe that this one story changed the field of psychiatry so drastically. Definitely worth trying it out.

The story of Sybil is one I've known all my life. My mother is obsessed with her story. She read the book and has seen the movie dozens of times so it's always been there for me. This book took everything I thought I knew and flipped it on its head. I'm not sure what to believe. Obviously, no matter...

This quote sums the entire horrifying book to me:Almost four years had passed since Shirley [the real Sybil] first walked into Connie's [Dr. Wilbur] office as an upbeat graduate student with nagging but bearable emotional problems. Now, after hundreds of hours of therapy and countless pills, shots, ...

Tough read, honestly. Though I admit to not being much if a nonfiction reader. I remember being fascinated by Sybil when the movie came out. When I heard this book was being written, I was excited .I found it alternately dry, plodding and buried in detailed, then entertaining, educating, and insight...

Sybil Exposed is an absolutely fascinating look at the field of psychiatry in the 1940s and 1950s and a heart-wrenching dive into the absolute power psychiatrists hold over their patients. Misunderstanding the workings of the human mind, or a lack of ethics on the part of the doctor can result in ho...
