This book is Calvino at his most oblique, weird and science fictional. Worth a read if you're a fan, but if you haven't read any of his other work, start somewhere else: I'd suggest Invisible Cities.
I never know where I will end up when reading anything by Italo Calvino, but I do know that I will be in for an interesting journey.
