Since it's been a while since I've shared...

This is actually my daughter's favorite song by the Doors, when she'll admit to liking them.  It's off their 3rd studio album Waiting for the Sun which was released in July of 1968. It was largely considered a "disappointment" at the time, only peaking at 16 in the US (but 1 in the UK).  Jim was headlong into his alcoholism and drugs, so this was kind of pieced together however they could.  The song itself was written by the band as a whole, but you can obviously hear Jim's contribution through the heavy Native American influences throughout the song. This was a commonality for a lot of the songs that Jim wrote himself due to his belief that the spirt of a Shaman traveled through him after witnessing a car accident when he was 4 years old.

In honor of Jim's would be 71st birthday today, I bring you my favorite song by the Doors..Indian Summer.

Indian Summer was actually one of the first songs the Doors ever recorded (in some interviews it is said the be the first, in others it is Moonlight Drive), done in August of 1966 when they recorded their self titled album, though it didn't actually show up until 1970 on their Morrison Hotel LP.

It's actually kind of against the grain for me that this song ends up being my favorite one.  There is just something so rock n roll about it.  I love you the best, better than all the rest.  So short and simple... none of the heavy keyboard play, none of Jim's typical off the wall lyrics and crazy performances.  It's just a to the point Jim-style love song that he puts so much emotion in, that it just blows my mind every time I hear it.

The Doors of Perception/Heaven and Hell - Aldous Huxley

Hello there Booklikers! I decided to start a new vlog dedicated to books. I am an eclectic reader, so I thought it would be a good idea to share a "reading list" of books that are interesting for art geeks, even if they're not necessarily about art.

The first book to be featured is Aldous Huxley's "The Doors of Perception" (1954). I will publish a new reading vlog every two weeks.

Tell me what you think! And if you have a book vlog, send me the link, I would love to see it!
