The last of the Jon Shannow books perhaps - a good read, worth a look
Bloodstone - David Gemmell

Presumably the last of the Jon Shannow novels, this book includes a fast-moving plot, plenty of characters (sometimes hard to remember who is who) and a lot of action, including a lot of death, shooting and injuries as well as a healthy mix of the supernatural and a wee bit of science-fiction. Probably only worth reading if you've read some of the previous David Gemmell Shannow novels. Quite a good read and preferable to his barbarian novels which get a bit samey after a while.

Pretty decent David Gemmell novel
Ironhand's Daughter - David Gemmell

David Gemmell books are all a bit similar although this one, the first part of a series, is possibly a bit better with fewer battles. The main character, Sigarni,  a huntress, finds herself propelled into a position of importance as an enemy threatens the Highlands in which she lives. Mystical forces are also at work and play an important part.

Gemmell fans should enjoy this and, as fantasy books go, this one is not bad at all but I won't be bothering with rest of the series.

LEGEND
LEGEND - DAVID GEMMELL The Drenai Empire is fading, and the Nadir Empire rises against it.
Druss the Legend is taken from retirement for one last battle.
Joining him are an unlikely collection of companions, and a fortress suffering from lack of troops and morale.

This was Gemmell's debut novel, and the characters, pacing and tension are done just right. It may not be wholly original in its ideas but it is a very good fantasy novel.

The Jerusalem Man and Atlantis – strange combination but quite good
The Last Guardian (Jon Shannow Novel) - David Gemmell

This is the second book in the Jon Shannow series by David Gemmell, having read the first one many years ago. It deals with his search for Jerusalem in a post-apocalyptic era and is basically a Western (gunfighters, outlaws etc..) with beasts, Atlanteans from the distant past and some hint about what happened to bring about the world in which they all live.

Although reasonably interesting, I found the novel a bit dated and even a bit silly at times. Having read quite a few of the author's fantasy books before, I was less impressed with this one.

Bog-standard David Gemmell fare - not his best
Dark Prince - David Gemmell

I've read quite a few David Gemmell books and they're pretty much alike on the whole. I find that I enjoyed this one less than others that I've read. This revolves around Philip of Macedon, His son, Alexander and Parmenion, his Spartan general.  This takes the Alexander the Great historical tale and adds a fantasy element as he is taken by the Chaos Spirit.

Far too many battles and fighting for my taste although inevitable, i suppose, given the subject matter. Not brilliant.
