review SPOILER ALERT! 2015-11-25 01:56
Ugh! Angst :(
Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid) - Richelle Mead

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars. I had read the synopsis of this book so I knew what to expect, but I still wasn't ready for it. :(

There's also a noticeable pattern to the series that started with book 2. The main story line of Seth and Georgina is always bogged down with some insignificant background story which always fails to gather my interest. It's always something dangerous that has to do with her supernatural world, but Georgina always keeps it a secret from Seth until it's too late and her life's in ultimate danger. *le sigh*

It's getting so predictable and book 3 definitely follows the same pattern, except that Seth jumps ship at the end with the most unexpected character: Maddie. Really??? Just out of left field and so stupid.

Georgina's not too far behind in the stupid category, shacking up with Dante - a super unsavory character who's done our dearest Erick and the world wrong! What?? Just craziness. How is this guy not in jail? He slits his sister's throat and the police never even investigated him? How is this even possible?

Anyhoo, Nyx makes it into the mix as a subplot where the angels are all trying to capture the escaped deity before anyone figures out they've lost her. Also, Niphon - Georgina's imp from long ago who actually brokered her deal to Hell rears his ugly head with a brand new succubus in tow, Tawny, whom Georgina gets stuck mentoring.

Plus, if we already didn't have enough blah! on our plates, another subplot is thrown in the mix where Vincent, a nephilim who's hiding his energy signature and posing as a human psychic is having a hush-hush relationship with an angel. They two - like Seth & Georgina - don't have sex because the angel doesn't want to fall and become a demon. Things also don't end well with them and I can't believe Vincent jumps ship at the end so carelessly as Seth does. A**holes!

It turns out Nyx infiltrates Georgina's dreams and drains out her powers, and meanwhile she's giving Georgina some weird dreams where Georgina has a special man in her life and she actually has a daughter - oh yeah and a broken dishwasher. But Georgina doesn't see it through the end of the dream and can't see who this mystery man is.

It's still a longshot of a dream since succubi can't have children. Georgina dismisses it, even though Nyx swears all her dreams come true.

But even though my interest was piqued, I couldn't even give this the attention it deserves because SETHHHH!!!! Aghhh! I completely take back everything good I've ever said about you. You, sir, are a pig. Ugh -- at this point, I'm rooting for Roman to come back.

*le sad sigh*

Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, Book 1)
Succubus Blues - Richelle Mead Surprisingly good. The title and the cover conspire to make this appear as a dismissable read and that's a shame. Strong writing, likable good AND bad guys on top of a nice little mystery make this a very satisfying read and opening into a series that I'm definitely going to keep reading.

Silly me for doubting Mead
Succubus Revealed - Richelle Mead

Oh silly me for doubting Mead. This was definitely my favourite book of the series. It was a thing of beauty how previous elements came back into play to resolve the story. I didn't see the scope of all of it coming and was thrilled with how it all played out.

What I love even more, was that at no point in this series did Georgina do something so bone-headed that I lost sympathy for her. I liked her and rooted for her the entire way through. I loved that she was loyal, that she had friends and that she was basically someone I could have seen myself being friends with. I loved that Seth was not an alpha male and still so adorable.

Yay for this series. Just yay! (But still hate the covers!)

My least fav of the series
Succubus Shadows - Richelle Mead

My least favourite of the series for a couple of reasons:

1) Why didn't she just warn Seth as soon as she knew another succubus was after him? and 2) the many chapters of dream stuff bored me. Not to mention that I didn't understand why they would Oneroi would let her see that many truths of what her friends were up to? Couldn't they control what she saw? What were the rules here? I found their reasoning somewhat flimsy.

(spoiler show)

I did like emotionally where this took her and Seth though and look forward to the final book.
