The Grigori Legacy “Because Warrior Angels Do It Better” Blog Hop

Welcome to The Grigori Legacy “Because Warrior Angels Do It Better” Blog Hop! This blog hop is all about sharing our love of Linda Poitevin’s awesome series and her warrior angels with a fun Q&A and there’s also a fabulous giveaway to enter! I was instantly a fan of this series and can’t recommend it enough to those who love a thrilling urban fantasy, but enough talking, lets get right to the good stuff…and feel free to share your thoughts if you’ve read or plan to read the books! <3

Line Divider-1

The Grigori Legacy Q&A

Who is your favorite character in the Grigori Legacy series, and why?

The Archangel Aramael would have to be my favorite character in the series. I was instantly drawn to his story and his devotion to keeping Alex safe, no matter what. It was great to see this character start off as this enigmatic hero with a chip on his shoulder and develop into a swoon-worthy hero that tugs at your heart strings. I love a tortured hero and Aramael fits that description perfectly.

If you had to describe the Grigori Legacy series in three words, what would those

words be?

Just three?! Gritty, unpredictable and addictive!

Readers and reviewers have called this a “different kind of angel story.” Do you agree or disagree? Why?

I totally agree. The Grigori Legacy is a bit darker than the other “angel stories” I’ve read and doesn’t always portray angels as sweet and innocent beings depicted in some books. Linda’s angels are fierce warriors who operate by a different set of rules that can have deadly consequences, they’re not infallible. One of my favorite aspects of this world is the lack of religious connotations associated with angels, if you’re looking for the beautiful, heavenly guardians you won’t find them here!

Who do you think the ideal reader is for this series?

Readers who enjoy a thrilling, dark urban fantasy with jaw-dropping moments and aren’t afraid to have their hearts temporarily broken while reading are sure to enjoy The Grigori Legacy. This series is definitely not for the faint of heart and there will be some tear jerker moments, you’ve been forewarned! Each book raises the stakes and keeps you turning the pages, sometimes keeping me up way past my bedtime. You will become invested in these characters and want, no, need to know what happens to them.

The series has a lot of big “whoa/OMG!”-type moments. Which scene or character – or which book overall – has surprised you the most so far? (No spoilers, please!)

Since there are no spoilers allowed I can’t actually voice my real OMG moment in this series…LOL But I will admit the heroine, Alex, has really surprised me with her fortitude and perseverance. She’s been thrown into a dark, dangerous paranormal world and even with all the loss and heartache she’s been through, Alex remains strong and determined to do the right thing and save humanity. I’d probably be better off in a padded cell after witnessing some of the things she’s experienced!

While the Grigori series is more UF than PNR, there is still a strong romantic element running through the books. Do you think Alex will get her HEA? If you could wave a magic romantic wand, who would you like to see her fly off into the sunset with?

One of my favorite things about this series is the strong chemistry between the characters and lack of follow through, I’d usually be upset about this in my books but it just works in this particular series and makes things interesting. I’m crossing my fingers that Alex gets a HEA, even if it’s not the one I was hoping for but I’ve been shocked by Linda before so you just never know what will happen! I’m sticking to my original HEA: If things could go my way, Alex and Aramael would fly off into the sunset together and live happily ever after! *fingers crossed*

What is one thing you would like to see happen in the last book?

I can’t really reveal this without spoilers so I’ll just say I’d like closure on the events that took place at the end of Sins of the Lost. I’d love a HEA for Alex, whether its with a partner or alone, she’s definitely earned one! While we’re at it, I’d like to see the archangel Michael get a HEA of his own…that would be the cherry on top for me!

About Linda Poitevin

Linda Poitevin Author Photo

Linda Poitevin was born and raised in B.C., Canada’s westernmost province. Growing up in an era when writing was “a nice hobby, dear, but what are you going to do for a living?”, Linda worked at a variety of secretarial jobs before applying to be a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Due to an error in measurement, however, she was turned down when she didn’t meet the height requirement of that time. Undeterred, Linda became a civilian member in the force and was a dispatcher for two and a half years, during which time she met her husband, a police officer.

Following their transfer to Ottawa, Linda went on to become a real estate agent and then a human resources consultant before starting a family. She remained a stay-at-home mom, homeschooled her youngest daughter for nine years and, now that she has realized writing can be more than a nice hobby, she continues to live her dream of being a cop vicariously through her characters.

Linda currently lives near Ottawa with her husband, youngest of three daughters, one very large husky/shepherd/Great Dane-cross dog, a cat, two rabbits, and a bearded dragon lizard. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found in her garden or walking her dog along the river or through the woods.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely love this series, it's dark, gritty and always keeps you on the edge of your seat...you never know what Linda will throw at you next. Alex is my favorite kind of heroine, she's smart, outspoken and a total BADASS...I love her! The world building is extraordinary and the complex characters are intriguing...especially one smexy Archangel by the name of Aramael. I do have one confession for new readers: The Grigori Legacy is not for the faint of heart, Ms. Poitevin loves to torture her characters and has ripped out my heart a couple of times throughout this series and I keep coming back for more...yeah, it's that good! That being said, I hope you all have fun with our little scavenger hunt and check out Linda's Grigori Legacy series...you won't regret it! And for those of you who have already fallen in love with the series, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! <3

Sins of the Lost (Grigori Legacy, #3)
Sins of the Lost (Grigori Legacy, #3) - Linda Poitevin

3/26/14 ** NO IDEA where that cover image came from OR how I change it.  Glad the tag has the correct title.

1/30/14 ** The jacket copy says that this is the darkest of the three books in the series so far...I found this to be true. I had a hard time continuing to read in the middle, because I was so worried about the characters. They kept making choices that I feared were going to make the overall problems worse. Of course, in the end... well, I won't say.

I will say that the world-building in this urban fantasy series is excellent. There are many ways to enter - love of angels, cop procedural, apocalypse, paranormal, etc. Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Sins of the Son (The Grigori Legacy)
Sins of the Son - Linda Poitevin 1/20/14 ** When I read this a year-and-a-half ago, I just commented that it was "grittier." Don't know if I was still stunned by the ending or if I didn't have time to think about my comments.

Poitevin's world building is phenomenal - consider, what could happen if a Son of God rejects his destiny? Is there such a thing as destiny? What happens when we exercise our freewill in positive or less productive ways?

I'm thinking about the phrase, "absolute power corrupts absolutely," but that doesn't completely apply - certainly the One (female, creator, God) seems to have absolute power but isn't corrupted. On the other hand, by giving free will to the mortals she created, she lost some power over them. She also thought she'd taken free will away from the angels, but some found a way around that.

This second in the series is characterized by loyalty, manipulation, betrayal, and horror. Many evils perpetrated by angels in heaven, the fallen in hell, and mortals on earth. However, many altruistic choices are also made, at nearly uncountable cost - by both angels and mortals.

A very thought-provoking book. I'm looking forward to beginning the third - available in eBook format.

1/16/14 ** Hmmm. I started this book this evening after finishing the first in the series yesterday. From the back cover, I decided that I hadn't actually read it before. Given this review from a year and a half ago, I obviously did read it! Now that I'm 52 pages in, individual scenes are coming back to me. However, I certainly don't remember the overall plot. I'm looking forward to a roller-coaster ride. :)

6/14/12 ** Better than the first book - more gritty, more personal conflict. Explains more of the world.

Sins of the Angels (The Grigori Legacy)
Sins of the Angels (The Grigori Legacy) - Linda Poitevin 1/15/14 ** As I noted a year and a half ago, this series is definitely genre bending: cop procedural, paranormal/urban fantasy, gritty mystery, romantic scenes FULL of sexual tension.

I had a great time on the third read too. Enough surprise and plot twists to keep me guessing, even though I've read before, but... I was also able to understand the nuances in the angel-politics better. I enjoyed the characterization among all the characters - nuances that I could unpeel like and onion (I know, cliched.)

I'm fascinated by the world-building. Ideas that I find particularly interesting:
* The Creator, known as the One (who's female by the way), is (or even could be "tired"
* Humans have free will but the angels don't (or at least they're not supposed to)
* Humans can ignore the hints that their Guardian Angels try to give them to keep them safe
* Human lives and decisions are influenced by the maneuvering and manipulation of both the Heavenly angels and the Fallen Ones.

6/12/12 (2nd read, but don't remember when first read was) ** Assigning genres is so hard. My husband and I were talking about where to shelve this. I would look for it in thrillers/mysteries (with Lee Child, Kellermans, etc.) He voted for fantasy/sci fi. It's really urban fantasy, I guess. There are many ways to find entree' into this world.

The main character is a cop investigating a series of brutal murders. The scenes alternate between the main character's investigative experiences and angels discussing angelic politics. This is a fascinating look at the hierarchy among the angelic hosts, the fall of Lucifer & subsequent rise of demons, and the role of the creator in the lives of humans.
