review SPOILER ALERT! 2017-07-20 23:11
The Lost Hero
The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) - Rick Riordan

This book was too long. Seriously. Also Rick Riordan obviously never watched Charmed.

The references in this book were less obvious than in Percy Jackson and the Olympians but that might just be because I'd read those before and I was coming to this series fresh.

Also, this series needs some good Asian characters. Before I started Son of Neptune I actually googled Asian characters of Rick Riordan's because I needed reassurance some were coming... I was not disappointed and that's pretty much the reason I kept with the series. I mean, before Frank the best we had was Annabeth's stepmom who's in the series for all of two seconds.

The Lost Hero continues with this whole "too much" makeup/people who wear makeup are shallow/natural beauty is best bs idea. I'm still not a fan of that.

But I'm glad Riordan finally addresses the use of "half-blood" in the series (forgot to mention that in my PJO reviews... oops).

I also have a lot of thoughts about Piper's dad and his Hollywood career, but they're not organized in my head yet.

Her Unexpected Hero - Kyra Jacobs

This story is book # 3, in the Checkerberry Inn series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading the series in order.

Maddie is in desperate need of some help at work, and a date to an event.  They may not go together, but the need for both is increasing.  There is a possibility of hope on these fronts, as long as she plays it right.

Cole is desperate for work to fulfill his dream.  He can help Maddie find a date.  They both have pasts and an attraction gaining heat.  Just a leap of faith keeping on track.

This was a cute, and sweet, and definitely clean romance.  My only issue is that I am not big on women who have insecurities rule their lives.  This was a twist on the love triangle trope, but handled in a clever way.  I give this book a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

No Turning Back by Kaylea Cross
No Turning Back - Kaylea Cross

After receiving surveillance photos of herself, Samarra Wallace grabs her tech, and disappears into the streets of Baghdad, no knowing who to trust. But when she receives a photo of her cousin, bound and surrounded by terrorists, Sam knows she needs to contact someone, unfortunately it's the man she turns to who doesn't know whether to trust her or not.

This is officially getting ridiculous. This series now exists only for the series sake. The main suspense arc could (and should) have ended in the previous book, but guess what, we still have two hot guys, and the big honcho, Luke, to cover, so let's stretch the terrorist plot as far as it can go.

There were holes in the plot you could drive a truck through (its predecessor was no better, mind you), the chemistry between the leads was non-existent, the heroine was rather incompetent for a CIA analyst, and the hero more or less an asshole. The final straw was how easily Sam forgave Ben for what he said in the hospital.

I don't mind suspension of disbelief, but this one was asking too much of me.

Some Kind of Hero: A Troubleshooters Novel - Suzanne Brockmann

This is the 17th book in the Troubleshooters series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  To avoid spoilers, and for reader enjoyment and understanding of this fabulous 5* series I recommend reading in order.

Shayla helps her neighbor Peter, when she sees him on the side of the road trying to flag help down.  Then they get to know one another and the heat is on!  The attraction is mutual, if not surprising.

Peter cannot find his daughter.  With her missing his life feels out of control.  His neighbor comes to his aid, and he is attracted to more than her body.  Her mind is such a sexy thing.

This is such a great addition to the series.  This story has it all.  I loved the character interactions, the sexy times, the recurring characters visiting & more!  Hard to put down a Troubleshooters book, and this is no exception.  If you were looking for a summer read, look no further!  I give this amazing story a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
