In Deep Voodoo - Stephanie Bond I chose this book from my free downloads for the Kindle. This was a really fun and quick read. There is plenty of laugh out loud moments all the way to the end.I enjoyed all of the characters in this book. Penny is the main character and while she helps solve the mystery, she is not portrayed as a “true amateur sleuth” in this book. She kind of takes side notes with B.J. the PI who is visiting town working on missing persons cases. Penny has a few secrets herself. Penny owns a health food store and has some great friends that work for her. Marie and Guy are the main workers. Guy is gay, or at least he hasn’t learned that yet, and Marie has fun trying to liven up Penny’s life. Several town people visit the store, some on a daily basis, others more frequent, who add spice to the mystery and fun. My favorite thing about this book was that it wasn’t your typical cozy mystery or romance. It had mystery. It had the ingredients of a cozy mystery. It had the romance, and at times was quite steamy. However, the author has done an amazing job of blending these things together in a very different way than “usual”.

In Deep Voodoo
In Deep Voodoo - Stephanie Bond First let me say I read this book in a single sitting because I couldn't stop once I started. This book kept me guessing from the first page and when I reached the conclusion I was blown away! That doesn't happen often so this book gets 5 stars for that and for being one of the best written book I've read in a long time. Add a hint of romance into an already incredible book and you've got bestseller material. Can't wait to read more and having the book based in Louisiana just gave it more bang in my opinion. I'll be rereading this book again and again and I'm looking forward to more work by this inspiring author!

In Deep Voodoo - Stephanie Bond This is an amusing story and a quick read.
Newly divorced Penny owns a business across the street from her old home - a Victorian that she lovingly restored. She is horrified to see that her ex-husband's girlfriend (the woman he cheated on her with) is having it painted 'puke pink.'
She's still not over the divorce despite having left him and starting divorce proceedings 10 months ago. One of her employees throws Penny a divorce party and this is where a lot of the trouble starts. Penny receives gag gifts at this party, including a voodoo doll in her ex-husband's likeness. Being prompted to 'stick it', Penny sticks the pin in the doll's chest. A few hours later she discovers her ex-husband's body, stabbed in the chest with a stake from her own garden.
The story proceeds from there and it takes place during a 'voodoo festival' in the small Louisiana town.
I liked this story, however I'm not sure that it is actually series material. There were a lot loose ends left that I would like to see tied up with the secondary characters, yet I'm not sure that I'm curious enough to read the rest the books that follow.
We'll see if my curiosity wins out for me to read the next story.

In Deep Voodoo - Stephanie Bond When Penny Francisco's cheating ex-husband, Deke Black, turns up murdered, Penny is the prime suspect as she was found at the scene by the new younger vindictive girlfriend. Enter gorgeous Cajun PI BJ Beaumont who is helping Penny investigate the many inconsistencies in the police case against her.

This is a light voodoo novel not a dark black magic one. A great mystery with engaging likable characters. The conclusion is very satisfying but leaves enough loose ends - not really connected to the murder - to stimulate an interest in a sequel - Finding Your Mojo.
