Historical Romance
Heir to the Duke (The Duke's Sons) - Jane Ashford

Heir To The Duke by Jane Ashford is an entertaining historical romance.  Ms. Ashford has delivered a book that is well-written and furnished it with amazing characters.  Nathaniel marries Violet because she's suitable.  Violet married Nathaniel to escape her hateful grandmother.  Nathaniel and Violet's story is full of drama, humor, sizzle and a bit of suspense.  I enjoyed reading Heir To The Duke and look forward to reading more from Jane Ashford in the future.  Heir To The Duke is book 1 of The Duke's Sons Series but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

not for me
Heir to the Duke (The Duke's Sons) - Jane Ashford

Robert’s carriage hit a rut and broke the axel. One if his carriage men took one of the horses to go back to the farm they had passed and he knew what the man brought back would probably be very crude but they were only about ten miles from their destination. Robert  had never been this far north before but his friends had asked to come to their party and he had said yes so he would go.    So he made this long hard journey to them. Robert got out to help his men and when under some shrubbery t avoid the rain he heard a whining when he went to see what it was it was what he thought was a puppy but really was just a small abandoned abused dog that he named Plato and decided he wanted and he went back to the carriage and   grabbed a blanket and got the poor helpless leery dog dried him off  and went to the carriage gave him a little to eat and some water and the dog went to sleep as Robert was talking about   how his friends asked him to the party as he added luster to parties that he attended. Luster was one of Robert’s gifts . Hostesses counted themselves lucky to have Robert  so he told the dog his new friend.   Robert added he liked to helping people enjoy themselves. It was only about ten more mile they had to go in this rough farm cart and Robert made sure to take the dog with him. Several hours later after a bath and a change of clothes Robert sat in his bedroom with the dog and read a letter from his mother- the Duchess of Langsford. Robert told Plato that he was back with his own and he wasn’t thinking of her. Then when Robert s in the drawing room he saw her -Flora  Jennings then he went to Flora and asked why had she come to this party. Robert told Flora he was surprised to see her among the people she professed to dispose. Robert went over to Lady Victoria who was the daughter of the house and her friends as it wouldn’t hurt Flora to see how charming how most females found him. Flora had been told by her mother they would always be snubbed by the ton as her mother had chosen to marry a lowly poor scholar instead of someone from the ton that she had been part of.   Flora thought she was mistaken about Robert but maybe she wasn’t after all. Flora and robert had hot chemistry.

I did not really care for this book. I didn’t connect to the book or the characters. I did however like Flora and Robert but they did seem to biker a lot. There were too many characters that just weren’t needed and only tended to confuse me. Where were the hosts and servants anyway? I just didn’t feel this was for me. But I did love Plato the dog  way my favorite thing in the book.

Book Review For: 'Nothing Like a Duke' by Jane Ashford
Nothing Like a Duke - Jane Ashford

'Nothing Like a Duke' by Jane Ashford is book four in "The Duke's Sons" series. This is the story of Robert and Flora.
Robert has agreed to attend a house party and is headed there when his carriage has an accident. Then he arrives to find that Flora is there who he thought to avoid. Robert tries to not take notice of Flora but it his hard for him to ignore the bluestocking. But Flora and Robert can't be discouraged for long. This was another good story by Ms. Ashford.

Nothing Like a Duke
Nothing Like a Duke - Jane Ashford I had a love- hate relationship with Nothing Like a Duke. I loved the strong heroine with a mind of her own and the soul of a fighter. I loved the mysterious intrigue that lived around ever curve and drove the story in an ominous direction. What left me lukewarm was the chemistry between the two central characters. I could take them individually but not enough sparks sizzled between them. I expected more.

What the Duke Doesn't Know - Jane Ashford

Lord James Greshan was at Oxford University at his brother Alan’s garden party. James ship had been destroyed from a storm seven hundred miles off shore. As long as James could remember he had been crazy about the sea. Leaving home at sixteen to start as a midshipman on a man- of war- ship. All James had wanted to do was captain a navy ship. His lost his ship -The Chares-  after only two years after he became captain. After ten years of service they had given James a medal and told him to enjoy some well deserved rest.  Now James was waiting for a new posting. James was seriously thinking of settling down and leaving the navy. There was a conflict in James with his love of the sea and the closeness of his parents marriage that men in the navy couldn't hope to have being  away from their family so much out of the year. James sister in law Ariel had become a wizard at matchmaking and James asked who she could come up with for him. Then someone slipped into the party looking like a boy wanting to shoot James only she wasn’t a boy but a female calling James a thief and murderer . James had already taken her to the ground . the James picked her up and threw her over his shoulder and took her into the house. James had no idea what he supposedly had done. The woman’s name was Kawena and believed James killed her father who was an English gentleman . Kawana came from the island Valatu . with her father's death Kawana had lost more than a parent but the one person who accepted her completely as she was especially with her dual heritage. Kawana’s father had been her anchor and without him she was lost. Kawana was determined someone that had been on James’s ship had robbed her father and she wanted to find the crew even though James’s ship had been decommissioned.

I couldn’t really get into this story . especially as it seem to drag for me really bad in some parts. The plot wasn’t that good as far as I am concerned. The story was also predictable. This story just wasn’t for me.
