Skirting the Ice
Skirting the Ice - Jennie Marts

Murphy was the girl next door, coming for periods of time to stay with her grandfather while her father was away at work. The Bannisters lived next door. Murphy was friends with all of them, but the closest with Jack. She was in love with Jack and vice versa. Then her dad got a job that didn't require travel and she left, never coming back. Fast forward about 10 years later.
Murphy's grandpa died, leaving her his house. Jack lives on his parents property in an apt above the garage. Murphy is putting down roots and hoping to turn her hockey team into a professional women's one.
This was a nice 2nd chance story. Both have their own insecurities that (almost) jeopardize their relationship. I could both empathize and understand those insecurities. However, Jack's attitude/insecurity over things he had no control over (his asthma for ex) really got on my nerves. One of the reasons I wanted to read his story is because he is NOT like his hockey brothers.
I thought Murphy's stalker was unnecessary.
(5 brothers- Owen, Bane, Jack, Nathan, Beau)

Caught Up in a Cowboy - Jennie Marts

A mix of a sports story with a cowboy country setting.     Rockford James is a cowboy at heart, having grown up in a little town, on a farm, with a steady girl until his dream of playing professional hockey comes true.     He leaves the little town, the farm, and his steady girl to follow that dream.     Young Rock plans to live the high life and never look back.  What he doesn't plan is to leave his heart back home.

Quinn is that small town girl that loved Rock with all she had until he left her behind.    Wanting to prove she can move on without him she meets a bad boy and has a son.  But she has never let her heart heal from Rock breaking it.   Then he comes back to the little town to heal from an injury.  She steels her heart against him but first loves have a way of breaking through that steel.

This book was so much fun.   It has romance, family drama, and amazing characters.   I love Rock's mom and how she steps in to be Quinn's mom when she needs an ear or advice.    Quinn's dad is a grizzly bear with a tender heart.   The brother's of both Rock and Quinn are so true to how brothers should be.  Rock's egging him on, Quinn's being extra protective.

Caught Up in a Cowboy is the perfect book to fall into.   I definitely recommend picking up your own copy.

Caught Up in a Cowboy (Cowboys of Creedence #1) by Jennie Marts
Caught Up in a Cowboy - Jennie Marts

Rock gave up on his past to score a brighter future. Quinn was a casualty of his pride, that left him with a ton of regret and her with a broken heart. But circumstances change and so do people. Will the maturity he lacked in the past, help him regain the heart he desires most? How do you mend a broken heart? By proving you deserve a second chance. Ms. Marts tickles the funny bone as she sets out to warm the heart. Caught up in a Cowboy shows the value of forgiveness and the healing power of love.

Worth the Shot
Worth The Shot: A Bannister Brothers Novella (A Bannister Brothers Book Book 2) - Jennie Marts

Definitely insta-love, but I enjoyed every second! Bane's on his way to St Louis. He is being traded to the NHL team there. He meets and connects with a woman on the flight. And she with him. Unbeknownst to both of them, her father is the team's coach. Enjoyable, good chemistry. Would have liked more at the end.

Icing On The Date
Icing On The Date: A Bannister Brothers Book - Jennie Marts

Owen is a hockey player that is in trouble often. He and Gabby meet in the women's restroom of a hotel during an event that Gabby is catering. She rescues him. Gabby is hard working and wants her bakery to one of the most popular ones. Owen remembers the name of the bakery and looks her up the next day. To thank her, he helps her for the day. And thus begins their relationship.
I didn't think I'd like this as much as I did. Owen is a drunken mess when they first meet. As I got to know Owen, I realized he was rarely like that. He was angry at himself that some of his (and his brother Bane's shared) behavior on the ice got Bane traded. I also liked Gabby. What brought this down for me was a secondary character- Justin, Gabby's brother. Gabby is a doormat when it comes to him, enabling him each and every time. See, Gabby as the eldest had sheltered and taken care of her younger brother Justin. They grew up with an abusive step-father. Justin gets drunk and into fights. He gets arrested and/or needs to go to the ER. Gabby then is the one who bails him out. In fact, the book opens with her having to do just that. It's implied that she's had to do it before. Then, later, after they went to a hockey game, they (Gabby, Owen, and Justin) go to a bar. Owen buys Justin a beer; smart, let's have the alcoholic have alcohol. It will come as a shock to all that later Justin got into a fight and needed to go to the ER! This would have been 4* if Gabby had held Justin accountable at all or changed her behavior. Or if it was even acknowledged that Justin was an alcoholic.
