Lost in a Good Book - Jasper Fforde
Few Eggs and No Oranges: The Diaries of Vere Hodgson 1940-45 - Vere Hodgson,Jenny Hartley
Jane And Prudence (VMC) - Barbara Pym,Jilly Cooper

Currently reading:

Lost in a Good Book: I think that I am almost done with Lost in a Good Book, although because it's an omnibus edition, I can't be sure. Things seem to be heading towards a resolution. I expect to finish in an hour or so.

With respect to this series - I'm pretty sure that this is the last of the Thursday Next books that I'm going to read. While I like the idea behind the book, I feel like they are a little too aggressively high-concept for me and I find myself frustrated with them. I do plan to return the omnibus, but will keep it in the back of my mind in case I decide to read The Well of Lost Plots.

A Few Eggs and No Oranges: I didn't make a lot of progress with this one this week. I read September and October of 1940, which is right in the middle of the London Blitz.

Being in the middle of a pandemic where some Americans are throwing tantrums like spoiled children over having to wear masks into stores and other public places, this is fascinating reading. We would not survive the Blitz. "Conservatives" would be whingeing about "muh riiiiiigths" as they all got us killed by refusing to put up some damn curtains.

Jane and Prudence: I decided that I needed a dose of Pym, so this is next up. I have the VMC edition in paperback and all I've read so far is the introduction by Jilly Cooper.

I do have a three day weekend coming up, so I'm definitely going to need to add at least one more book to the plans. I'm trying to settle on my next Christie reread. On my ATVL blog, I reposted a bunch of Heyer reviews for #Throwback Thursday, so I'm also considering diving into my Heyer digital collection and reading one of her regencies! I also have a digital copy of Tey's The Man in the Queue, which is in consideration.

Rivals.
Rivals - Jilly Cooper

I've been SO thoroughly enjoying my re-read of my pile of Jilly Cooper books - Rivals is one of my favourites (although the next one up Polo is my *absolute* favourite) due to the character of Declan and the fact that in this one Rupert meets the love of his life for the first time.

Fast, funny and so entertaining I really recommend these - for all people of all ages (ok perhaps 14 and over - I read them first around then!) The perfect pick me up reads.

Sadly I have to put the re-read on hold for a while due to extreme review reading but I will no doubt be back to them soon when I shall enter the world of Perdita and Polo once more.

Happy Reading Folks!

Riders - review.
Riders - Jilly Cooper

This must be the tenth time at least that I've read this novel since my teens and it never disappoints or get's old - I'd hit a bit of a reading slump so picked this up as a tonic and it worked an absolute treat. I'm now going to move on to the rest of the saga- next up Rivals.

Riders is just simply a glorious romp set around show jumping, with some perfect characters (Rupert Campbell-Black, now a fictional icon, is still JUST as brilliant no matter how many times you "meet" him), this book is funny, sexy, exciting and SUCH a marvellous reading experience that I'm sure that before I'm done with life I shall have read it a few more times.

Following our cast through the ups and downs of local shows, national shows, international shows and culminating in a spot on perfect finale at the Olympics, it is entirely compelling, the intricacies of the love lives and riding lives of everyone you meet being so beautifully done.

I adore this series and always will.

Happy Reading Folks!

Polo (Rutshire Chronicles #3) - Jilly Cooper

I enjoyed this even though it was a bit long. Interesting characters. May get to Riders, the first book in the series, at some point, though I need to work up an interest again as the problems of the UK bourgeoisie don't top my to-read list.

Char has started this ball rolling so.......

Here are my top ten and my favourite reads by them.

1. James Patterson - 44 (this has totally bummed me out, there was a time though that I really enjoyed his books)

2. Richard Laymon - 37

3. Stephen King - 21

4. Jackie Collins -14 (most of these were read in my teenage years and formed a large part of my sex education) ;)

5. Joe Hill - 12

There you have it, a list I have very mixed feelings about. I will say that I am reading a lot more unfamiliar authors, especially over the last 18 months. My online interactions in HA, Darkfuse and Booklikes has broadened my reading tastes and in a few years time I'm sure my top ten authors will look very different.

Happy reading.
