Althea
Althea - Madeleine Robins I did enjoy this story of Althea and Tracy and the rest of the cast. I could see sequel bait in her brother, and while I did like Althea she was also occasionally irritating, particularly when she decided to test Tracy about his love. The story opens with Althea arriving in her sister Marie's house to escape the assumption by her father and brother that she's going to be the permanent housekeeper for them. She's determined to live and not under their strictures of familial expectations. Tracy finds her interesting and diverting, different to the run-of-the-mill girls his sister-in-law keeps presenting him with. She also gets involved in the love lives of other people. The story includes a few of the typical tropes of romance novels and I did notice a few typos, but I enjoyed the read overall.

LADY JOHN
Lady John - Madeleine E. Robins Another rather entertaining read. Lady John is about a widow, the said Lady John who married her husband in Brussels during the war between the French and English and is now invited, by her husband's family, to come to England to meet with them. They're not sure who she is or what to make of her until she turns up and then they're delighted with her. She re-meets an old acquaintance but finds that he's cold towards her, she also has a friend from Brussels follow her. It's light and entertaining. An enjoyable read.

Point of Honour
Point of Honour - Madeleine E. Robins Interesting story about a woman in a world quite like ours but a little different which the author explains in a postscript. Sarah ran away with her brother's fencing master, when he dies she returns to London to live. Her aunt runs a brothel and Sarah finds space in a property she owns on the site of the brothel and sets herself up as an Enquiry Agent. She's comissioned to find a fan that hides a secret that could take down the government abut the bodies start piliing up.

Petty Treason: A Sarah Tolerance Mystery
Petty Treason - Madeleine E. Robins Sarah investigates the murder of the husband of a woman, the woman is the prime suspect but there are many other possible culprits for the job. The more I read of Sarah the more I like her. She's a solid character who is likeable and you can see how the author has done her best to study the period and come up with a character who is firmly rooted in the period but still struggling with her survival as a fallen woman.

The Stone War
The Stone War - Madeleine E. Robins In a alternative future close to when this story is written New York has a resurgence of creatures of myth and legend and a collapse of some buildings and normal. John Tietjen is out of the city when it happens but returns to try to find his family. Instead he finds creatures of myth and a very changed world. It's an interesting story with some interesting moments but there were times I had to re-read bits to try to see what had gone on. It had potential that really didn't seem to be fully realised.
