Day 18 - A book that disappointed you

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. I know this is considered top notch by a lot of people who love literature, but for me this was barely readable. It was so long and meandering and impenetrably pointless. It was about pointlessness it seemed to me, and it really drives it home. I even went to the trouble of watching a college professor lecture on this book, trying to understand what I missed, and I still really don’t see anything but a book that haunted me with its terribleness.

And I was so excited to read this. I loved The Road. I loved No Country for Old Men. This book was touted as his best work. So what happened? I don’t know. All I can say is this is definitely the most disappointing book I’ve ever read. I’ve gone in hyped and come out feeling over-hyped, but never to this degree.
