A Touch Too Much Game Playing
Neanderthal Marries Human - Penny Reid

3.5 The courtship was fabulous, they fell and here they go to the next step. Yes, they go there to wedding-ville in a round about, beat each other into the bushes, test, test, test, and make me want to scream "this is not worth it" in utter frustration. Janie, with her tests, ARGUH !!! It went too far for me in this book. I admit to having a bit of a hate relationship with weddings/planning them and sure that tainting my views. She made everything so hard, in such ridiculous ways. Luckily it didn't last that long and the story went on for some chuckles, snuggles and cuddles. The Vegas bachelorette party was hilarious, the outcome, well it was a LOL shock. The story moved on a touch for a few of future couples. It also opened a giant can of Family drama worms for Janie and Quinn.
I enjoyed this, not as much as the first book but it was fun and I'm glad I got to see their relationship go on. I'm just not a fan of game playing for testing someones love and commitment.

Review of "Neanderthal Marries Human" ( Knitting in the City #1.5) by Penny Reid
Neanderthal Marries Human - Penny Reid

Overall, a fun read with main characters enjoyed in first book plus all the side characters. Full-length ( despite series numbering "1.5" ) novel that probably could have been better as a novella.

No huge surprises beyond some family drama raised and some resolved.

The reason I didn't rate higher was a mix of moments that were almost too sappy and other moments that should have been deemed horrid that these characters just breezed right past accepting. By horrid, I don't just mean rationalizing blackmail to get real justice or putting up with family issues. It bothered me -- not a spoiler for the ending, happens mid book at bachelorette trip, nor any huge plot point but I'll put it in a spoiler in case could ruin someone's surprise:

the knitting circle girls get their drinks spiked with moonshine gone methanol and their chocolate mickey'd with a different drug than perp planned, both at same time by two of the girls and everyone was okay with that, dismissing as would have been just fine if both had not happened at once (even thought Quinn sending the remnants to a lab to identify the substituted drug overkill) -- plus while out of their minds everyone was okay marrying one girl off in order to get everyone to go back to hotel rooms versus security or police just making them go to hotel or hospital rooms.

(spoiler show)

Fun, but disturbed by the spoiler and other moments. I have more books in series free and library has others so may or may not eventually finish series.

Reading progress: 20%.

Cool - this picks up immediately after ending of first book.  Which I liked but would recommend only if you like the main character (okay, so that's true of most humorous chicklit).

Why didn't I continue the series sooner?  Because (A) I mistakenly thought this book featuring same main characters labeled "#1.5 in series" was a short story (it's not, full length novel) and (B) back-of-book synopses of next books sound like other characters/couples are featured only loosely tied to first book rather than continued storyline with same main characters (still suspect that's true, meaning I'll eventually read them but no hurry).

I enjoyed visiting Janie and Quinn again.  Janie is so refreshing, in some ways.

The first 45% of this left me feeling apprehensive and anxious.  I suppose that was sort of the point, but I didn't enjoy it.  The remaining 55% was enjoyable.
