Fortune's Pawn
Fortune's Pawn - Rachel Bach

Devi is a mercenary whose life goal is to be a Devastator (an elite group that serves the king of Paradox). She signs up for a year of security work on The Glorious Foul because she'll get credit for 5 years and serve 1. However, all is now what it seems.
I liked the writing and I thought the world interesting. However, I would have liked more backstory on the different species and planets (why don't Paradoxians like the Terrans and vice versa for example). I liked Devi, but had trouble connecting with her. I found this was very easy to pick up and put back down. I wasn't really that invested in her story. Then that fucked up ending. I disliked that

mainly because Rupert took any choice any. 'Cause he knows best.

(spoiler show)

For Romance-opoly Outer Space Sun track.

Devi Morris isn't your average mercenary. She has plans. Big ones. And a ton of ambition. It's a combination that's going to get her killed one day - but not just yet.

That is, until she just gets a job on a tiny trade ship with a nasty reputation for surprises. The Glorious Fool isn't misnamed: it likes to get into trouble, so much so that one year of security work under its captain is equal to five years everywhere else. With odds like that, Devi knows she's found the perfect way to get the jump on the next part of her Plan. But the Fool doesn't give up its secrets without a fight, and one year on this ship might be more than even Devi can handle.

If Sigouney Weaver in Alien met Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, you'd get Deviana Morris -- a hot new mercenary earning her stripes to join an elite fighting force. Until one alien bite throws her whole future into jeopardy.

Very satisfying conclusion of the trilogy
Heaven's Queen - Rachel Bach

I really really enjoyed this.

I loved the very original universe-building, the Alien races, the conflict and also the unravelling of all those hints from the first two books.

I loved the development of the female protag - loved also what happened with Rupert over the cause over the whole three books.

She was strong, but not perfect. And she was aware of herself, of her strengths and her weaknesses. She always did her best - I really liked that.

Honour's Knight: Book 2 of Paradox - Rachel Bach

Ooh that's complicated.

That was not what I was expecting to happen with the story, complex and involved and I really what to know where she's going with the story because from here it's complicated. There are so many wheels within wheels and messy inter-personal stuff going on.

Definitely a mid-series novel though.
