Audio Book Review: Darkness of Light (Darkness #1) By Stacey Marie Brown
Darkness of Light - Stacey Marie Brown

*This review is of the 6 hours and 52 minutes of the audio book that I heard. I couldn't stand to listen to the last 3 hours and 35 minutes.

I'd like to start by asking how this book has an average of 4 stars on Goodreads and 4.5 stars on Amazon as of july 2016. Did I read the same book that everyone else did? I lost count of the number of times I rolled my eyes during this audio book.

I despised Ember as a character. I don't understand if she was just THAT dense or just plain stupid. Other than her 'weird' eyes and red and black hair there wasn't anything all that strange about her. It never gets explained why everyone in this small town has it out for her. So lights blow up when she's near, there are 30 other people in the room who's to say it wasn't one of them then?

For most of the book it seemed like the only thing going through Ember's mind was how hot Eli was. At times his shirt sleeve would lift up a millimeter and she would perv out. I understand he's hot (which is the only thing going for him) can you move on to something else and stop repeating it every 2 lines? I'm also at a loss as to why she openly shared her whole life with him (after knowing him all of 2 weeks) and gets angry when he won't do the same with his life. She went as far as to put herself in a dangerous situation just to maybe 'catch a glimpse of his hotness'.

Eli was a horrible character/person. How someone can find him attractive is beyond me. He's a complete asshole at times and yet Ember still runs back to him. He was violent and went as far as to hurt her, but it was all justified by how incredibly hot he is. The interesting thing is that when she tried to ignore him and pretend to move on he gets angry AT HER. Am I the only one at a loss for words?

Torin is a mystery to me. I still don't understand his role in this book. All he did was deliver cryptic messages that made no sense and disappeared. He also said things like: 'You're mine' & 'You belong to me'. That just made him creepy and no amount of hotness and leather pants could make me change my opinion.

The only redeeming characters in this book are her two best friends and her stepdad. The only people who care about her and yet she goes out of her way to lie to every single one of them, all the while opening her heart and soul to Eli.

Across The Divide (Collector #3) by Stacey Marie Brown
Across The Divide (Collector Series Book 3) - Stacey Marie Brown

Across The Divide starts off where The Barrier Between (Collector #2) ended.  Zoey Daniels has been captured by Vadik and returned to DMG.  She is turning into a Fae and being tested/tortured by Dr. Rapava.

Stacey Marie Brown has out done herself.  Across The Divide has become my favorite book in the Collector Series.

Stacey Marie Brown’s character development is noteworthy.  Zoey is a phenomenal heroine.  She has undergone so much; the pain and torment just do not stop.  She is strong and clever.  She will do whatever it takes to protect the people that have become her family.

Croygen becomes a good friend to Zoey.  I could see how he, and Ryker were allies.  They really do have a lot in common.

I love Ryker’s character.  He suffers tremendously throughout this book.  He discovers some interesting things about his past.  He struggles against the oath he made Zoey.

I still love Sprig.  He is the cutest “ADD, narcoleptic, honey-addicted monkey-sprite.”  I don’t say that every day.  I want one as my friend.  His comments crack me up.

Both Dr. Boris Rapava and Vadik are malicious advisories.  The two are amazingly alike considering they are enemies.  They are both pure evil, power hungry, and brutal.

The plot was incredible.  I was chomping at the bit the whole time I was reading the story.  There are so many surprises and twists.   We discovered a lot of pertinent information that happened in the past; not to mention the cliffhanger ending. I cannot wait for the book four, From Burning Ashes.  If you have not read the previous books in the series, I would definitely start with book one, City in Embers.

The Barrier Between (Collectors #2) by Stacey Marie Brown
The Barrier Between (Collector Series Book 2) - Stacey Marie Brown

Zoey Daniels and Ryker go a quest to return Ryker’s powers to him before Zoey dies.

The Barrier Between is a fast-paced novel that kept me entertained and guessing.

Zoey and Ryker have both undergone a lot and changed throughout this series. They both hated the other’s race and now have become allies. They have become so close there is probably no one who knows them better. I love that they seem like a family along with their “kid” Sprig.

Speaking of Sprig, I still adore him. He cracks me up with his love of honey and amusing comments. He adds comic relief to the story.

A couple of new people join the trio on their quest. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but we met on of them in book one. I never really trusted either of them. They both seem to have hidden agendas.

There is so much that happens in this story. I felt bad for Zoey because she never seems to catch a break. It’s just one thing after another. Needless to say it kept the story interesting.

The Barrier Between ends with a crazy cliff hanger that left me yearning for book three, I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
