I am stuck at about 60% of the book and have been stuck for quite a few months. I don't know why I want to continue reading this book. The spinster Emily, aka older sister who would do anything for her younger sister and brother, lied to get a position at Jonas' establishment. I didn't bother with how Jonas came into the property, something to do with his father, not very interesting and not related to the story. So Jonas saw Emily and wow this is it. I am seeing a new trend in my reading preference. I do not care much for th male employer and female employee plot. It is especially bad for me if the guy started lusting after the woman during the interview. This book is exactly that.
And then there is the older sister mother hen characterization. I am by default against mother/older sister types of heroines. They love their children and siblings, all commendable and admirable. I have seen this older sister sacrifice thing done right and it is most touching. But most of the times the heroines just seem too much like a martyr. I think I prefer the heroine to be a woman before she is anything else.
So at 60% Jonas and Emily have done whatever they have to do. Jonas determined that he loved Emily and the rest is just to get Emily to trust him and help her find the treasure. Ugh....boring much?
