Review: High Concept
High Concept - Whitley Gray

*** 3 good, but long stars ***

This is a "cat and mouse" based story, where the investigation of the case is in forefront and the romance second. There are several POVs, including both main characters and the bad guy. I liked the change of POV, it made the story interesting and the mystery intriguing, but not terribly exciting.

To use an analogy to describe the story, it read as an sturdy and solid no-nonsense car, who takes some bumps along the road/story, but it takes the bumps and keeps going anyway. It was okay to "drive" in the beginning, but it got tiresome. Not exactly boring, but it didn't make me exciting to continue to journey either. I felt the book was too long. There were too many descriptions, which were okay, but there were too many of them when they added up. The book was over 300 pages, and my personal opinion is fifty pages could easily have been cut, to make the story more tight and better flowing. To make it a faster and more interesting car to "drive".

I feel the story started out as a possible 4 star rating, then morphing into 3,5. I got a bit disappointed towards the ending and how it all went down. It was eyeroll inducing since the MC had an misunderstanding which could easily have been avoided, but resulted it the showdown with the killer. The main characters were very frustrating!

So 3 stars it is. Intriguing and good mystery/crime, but a bit too long. Frustrating MCs made for eyerolling events towards the end. But the ending was good, but a bit abrupt.

I've read 18% of High Concept
High Concept - Whitley Gray

He crossed the room, set the plate on the counter, and began unloading the plastic bags. (...) The melon rolled from the bag and into the sink. Zach picked it up and inhaled. Round and sweet as a lover’s ass.

What is it with authors and sexual food analogies? The last book I read talked about the guy was used to "more prepping before the turkey was stuffed into the oven." And now melon and ass. This is nuts. Heh.

Crash Pad (Whitley Gray)
Crash Pad - Whitley Gray

Had to agree with Gigi's Review. The whole switch between light story into an MC having flashback of being abused by his ex was enough to give me whiplash.

Oh, and personally, I didn't think that the 'new' love interest was good as well. Remy was okay at first, until ... he actually appeared in one of the Jamie's PT's sessions because he wanted to apologize to Jamie, but he did it secretly, and whispering in Jamie's ears when Jamie's eyes were closed. It totally gave me a stalker creepy vibe!! That one scene killed any possibility of this entering my 'okay' zone.

A BR with Momo??  Hell yes!!  We were pretty pumped about this one…but yes…we were the guinea pigs here so bear with us.

Her review is pretty spot on…so be sure to check it out  here.

And I am totally with her that this kind of book is a guilty pleasure of mine.  It seems we have heard it time and time again, and yet…I was pleasantly surprised.  The attraction between these two…the sweetness…the patience…I found myself totally wrapped up in them…

Then throw in some of the best kissing scenes I have read and some hot sex between these two…

We get both POV’s here which I love.  We see how each of them changes and how they view this relationship.  How this “arrangement” becomes more.

Michael couldn’t pinpoint the moment it had changed from fucking to making love, but it had.

It had changed to love.

So sounds pretty amazing right…well Momo got a bit ahead of me…she posted her feelings…I felt the frustration building…my mind went crazy…no it can’t be it can’t…will I be throwing things???

Well…I never used this gif but dammit Whitley Gray…you fucked this book up badly!! I hated what happened here.  There is NO CHEATING…let me make this clear.  But when an author pulls a reader into believing there could be…NO NO NO NO NO!!! I was a mess and left questioning my beautiful boys, and I do not like that at all!!! I wanted to just pull my hair out!!!

The first 78% of this book is wonderful and a real surprise of a read...and yes Momo and I may just have to write our own ending….with more lovin…

So many missed opportunities and honestly just teasing the reader in so many ways…

Pineapple Flavored Body Paint???  FFS…this is the third book I have read with a painter in which no paint is used on the body???  What is up with this? And why tease us??  *pouts*

A pool table??

(Thanks for finding these Momo)

And a shower scene??? I mean come on…don’t get me wrong the scenes we did get were good…but throw us girls a wet bone, would ya??

Yeah…I kinda just cracked myself up there.

So yeah…that ending could have been just amazing…just a beautiful expression of love between these two…them coming to terms with their own personal issues and I would have easily given this 4.5 stars.  Such a shame.

Momo, honey, it was a pleasure throwing panties and pulling hair with you!  Happy to do this again, anytime!
