Continuing this series is a must!
Chasing Nikki - Lacey Weatherford

Chasing Nikki - Lacey Weatherford

*More like 3.5 STARS*

Aww man. That was so mean! I can't believe this. Poor, poor Chase. Life just really kicks some people in the nuts, doesn't it?

Anyway, I thought it was a sweet coming of age story with a whole lot of tragedy mixed in. Of course though, I'm going to have to go to the next book, like immediately! I have to see what happens next.

Taking dark tunnels to a whole new level
Darkbound - Michaelbrent Collings

I wouldn't call Darkbound a great horror novel, but I don't know when I last enjoyed one as much. At 280-some pages, the plot clips along at a nice pace, and while I figured out some of the twists I still couldn't put it down until the very end.

The gore is very gory, but as detailed as it is, the author doesn't spend pages and pages spelling it out complete with the victim's every feeling of fear and pain. It doesn't have the richly endless bloodbaths of Clive Barker or the luxurious suffering-every-paper-cut detail of Stephen King, which is a plus for me. Normally I try to skim over those bits, and while you totally can here (it's easy to do--any important story bits you might miss will be explained later), I didn't find it necessary. YMMV.

It might've been a mistake to pick it up as bedtime reading, but it's great quick, light, delicious horror that's easy to digest in one sitting, and not so easy to forget.

Nice intro to a new author!
Weekends Required - Sydney Landon

*3.5 STARS*

I rounded up on this one, but it's probably more like 3.5 stars.  I liked this story.  I'm a sucker for this theme.  But, Jason really pissed me off in the beginning with his holier than thou attitude.  He got over it quickly though.

I also got upset with Claire because she wasn't telling Jason why she got so upset when she perceived he was taking over her life.  But, if we didn't have those little skirmishes, there would have been no conflict in the book really.

I had the previous self-pubbed version so it had some minor editing issues that I think took me out of the story a few times because I had to figure out what the author was trying to say, but I'm sure those got fixed when the book was published by Penguin.

I was annoyed by Claire's best friend, Suzy in the beginning of the book, but she grew on my by then end--especially when she showed what a good friend she could be when Claire needed her.  So, now I'm looking forward to reading her story next.

This was first story by Ms. Landon and I'll definitely be reading her again!

Sarah Mayberry knows her CR!
Her Favorite Temptation - Sarah Mayberry

I've been reading more and more Sarah Mayberry and I have to tell you that I really enjoy her stuff.  I was looking for a sweet CR to change the pace of some of the darker stuff I had been reading recently and I knew exactly where to turn.  Sarah Mayberry is my go to author in those types of situations and HER FAVORITE TEMPTATION definitely didn't disappoint.

I really loved both Leah and Will and understood where they both were coming from.  I got a little annoyed that Will wouldn't share his secret with Leah knowing that she would understand him.  I didn't once think that she would pity him, and it frustrated me that he wouldn't open up there.

But, it all worked out in the end.  I thought the ending was realistic and was so happy to see that Will didn't miraculously get cured at the end.  That would have really been disappointing.

I will continue to read Sarah Mayberry.  I love her voice.  I know that when I'm looking for a feel good kind of book, she's not going to let me down!

Liked it but these characters made me crazy!
Her Best Friend - Sarah Mayberry

*3.5 STARS*

I’m a sucker for friends to lovers stories.  I know that I’ve said that before.  This was a good one.  it was great for me but it was good.

One of the problems I had with it, is that when someone is supposed to be your best friend and you are an adult, I would really expect a little bit more effective communication.  I know it’s hard to make that transition from friend to lover but someone has to take the plunge and if you are the friends that you say you are, your relationship will handle the risk.  GAH! I wanted to hit them!  LOL

But, I’m so glad it worked out at the end.  they both deserved it.
