The Trouble with Destiny - Lauren Morrill

I feel like I was more excited about this one in the abstract than I actually was in terms of the book. Partly this is because I didn’t connect well with the characters, and didn’t feel super invested in the plot despite the marching band on a cruise ship setup. I did finish it, for whatever that’s worth.

"Destiny's Captive" by Beverly Jenkins...

Book Description....

"In national bestselling author Beverly Jenkins' Destiny series, the Yates men play hard and live hard. And when they find that special woman, they fall hard . . .

Noah Yates fully believes in the joys of a happy family and a good wife. But that's not the life for him. No, he would much rather sail the wild seas in search of adventure, not tied down. But then the unthinkable happens . . . he finds himself literally tied down. To a bed. By a woman.

And Pilar isn't just an ordinary woman. She's descended from pirates. And after giving him one of the worst nights of his life, she steals his ship! Now Noah is on the hunt, and he'll stop at nothing to find this extraordinary woman . . . and make her his."

What I liked about this novel....

I thought "Destiny's Captive" was a very interesting historical romance and is a series # 3. This was definitely one read that will keep your attention because there will be a lots going on as this author gives the reader a wonderful well written read. If you are into adventure and pirates...a good romance you have come to the right place for a interesting read all the way to the end. Be prepare for a read of sweet romance that will be encased with some real interesting secrets in 1870's in this setting from ventures in Cuba, Florida and California.

This story had a very interesting plot where I did find it somewhat confusing to me through some of the reads but from some of the twist and turns with few secrets that did came to light did kept me reading. I was glad I did continue to read because after a while I did start to enjoy the flow of the read.

What I especially liked about the novel....

The heroine Pilar was a very interesting character being well developed...so likable and being strong showing her doubting kindness, however she wasn't just any women..."she steals a ship". Then there was the hero Noah who had a real dark side but when it came to Pilar he was so taken with her.

Truly these two were perfect for each other with some real hot steamy scenes. Now, to get the whole story of how these two hooked up I would say to pickup "Destiny's Captive" to see how it is presented to the reader. Would I recommend...Yes, however it may be a good idea to read the first two series because I think there will be a good connection to the read in doing so.

Here is a little summary of The Destiny Series:

"This new three book series set in 1880s California, introduces ranch owner Alanza Yates and her three sons: Logan, Andrew and Noah. Destiny’s Embrace is the story of Logan and his housekeeper Mariah. The second book Destiny’s Surrender, also scheduled for a 2013 publication centers on middle brother Andrew and his very non-traditional heroine Whilemina (Billie) Wells. [...] The third in the series - Noah’s book will follow in 2014" which is the novel review above: "Destiny's Captive."

October is Queer Romance Month
Two Boys Kissing - David Levithan
A Boy's Own Story - Edmund White
Hold Tight: A Novel - Christopher Bram
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe - Benjamin Alire Sáenz
Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir - Paul Monette
The Normal Heart & The Destiny of Me - Larry Kramer,Tony Kushner
Faggots - Larry Kramer,Reynolds Price

Where to start?

OK. The first gay novel I read is "A  Boy's Own Story" by Edmund White. I love this writer as I don't even know where to begin to find out what this busy of gay is about.

So thanks for the education.

Then somewhere along the timeline, I read "Borrowed Time" by Paul Monette and cried my eyes out.

So touching.

A bit embarrassed when I read "Hold Tight" written by Christopher Bram. Quite a lot of sex scenes in this one.

This is all good and done when I was very young.

I haven't read Two Boys Kissing nor books by Larry Kramer. But I watched Normal Heart and love the movie.

Who wouldn't love the Hulk (The Avengers) kissing Neil (White Collar).

Not really into romance novels for whatever combination of gender. So, didn't read a lot of romance. But there are elements of romance in these books.

Review: Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell
Destiny Binds - Tammy Blackwell

What a wonderful start to a series. Probably one of the better shifter books I’ve read, though a little heartbreaking. I will admit – I cried for a bit there.

The main character, who tells the story, is Harper “Scout” Donovan. She is an awesome character, in my opinion. She was funny and sarcastic, smart and logical, honest, strong and loving. It also seems she’s not from the girls who think they’re not pretty while they are. She’s truly weird looking, but she definitely catches the eye. I quite honestly don’t get why she doesn’t have many friends; she is plain awesome. Too bad not everyone see her as such.

Alex is the new guy in town. He was so sweet, charismatic, nice, caring and loving. Also, I mustn’t forget beautiful, hot, with a set of killer dimples. He is kind of the perfect guy, and I loved him, the way he behaved and acted around Scout. She's pretty much the center of his world, andwho doesn't want her guy to treat her as such?

Jase is Scout’s step brother, whom she has been together with since they were tiny babies, and he isinfinitely awesome. I loved the relationship between him and Scout, their banter and their devotion to one another. How they’re thought of as “twins” even though blood-wise, they have no relations. I envy their relationship.

Talley is Scout’s best friend, and she’s another very awesome character. She is the kind of person who sees the best in everyone, and who knows Scout and her family like she knows herself.

Charlie is Jase’s best friend and cousin, and...
