Mystery
Fear of Getting Burned (Eternal Flame Book 1) - Peter Styles

Kyle & Rick do not get along.  Rick is very snappy and impatient with Kyle.  He appears to be offended he is being bothered.  This is sad, considering Kyle was Rick's hero for a day at least.

Rick is just different.  From a different culture, region, country, etc.  They just need to learn to communicate on a level that works between them.  The attraction is certainly there for both sides, and this helps pave the way.

This story seems hot and cold.  I found myself wondering if they should even get together.  I was just not prepared for the personality clashes.  Overall, a quick and simple read.  I give this story a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

***I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Hollow City
Hollow City - Ransom Riggs

This was a pretty faced paced book. I read through it a lot quicker than the first book but I liked the first one better. This one didn't have the dry humor of the first. I missed that.

I usually only read realistic fiction (mostly mysteries) so this story is a stretch for me. The hollows sound so scary!  Omg, long slimy tongues covered in suction cups?! I love the dog in the book though and wish I could have him. IThe menagerie cracked me up and that was a nice balance to the scarier parts. I'm afraid of chickens now too. The ending really threw me for a loop though (pun intended).

At the end of the first book, the Peculiar Children rescued Miss Paragrin but she couldn't change back into human form. She had a broken wing and needed care only another ymbryne could give. They had to hurry because the longer she stayed a bird the worse her chances were that she would never be able to become human again. They all set off in boats for the mainland in search of the last ymbryne. They ended up in London where they evaded Hollows and dodged bombs in their search. They found a few other Peculiar Children from other raided loops and Jacob learned more about his talent.

Fourth Book in Series Not as Good as Previous Installments
Once Upon a Wine - Beth Kendrick

I really wanted to like this one. But everything from beginning to end felt like paint by numbers. Even the romance between the characters seemed a foregone conclusion and I I found myself bored. I was happier to read about previous characters when they showed up in this book.

I think my biggest problem is that this whole thing was so far fetched and not believable. A woman (Cammie) is called to help by her cousin (Kat) when her aunt Ginger) buys a winery on a whim in Delaware. Cammie is still reeling from being dumped by her ex and being left bankrupt by him when their restaurant failed. Running back to Delaware where she left her last serious boyfriend is not what she wants to do. They of course have an awkward meet up and then she of course needs the ex's help while trying to keep her aunt's winery afloat.

I really wanted to like Cammie, but felt meh on her. I outright got really tired of the character of Kat who is going through a mid-life crisis and acts like a jerk towards her husband through the whole book and then magically resolves things. Ginger was just frustrating since she refuses to see what her being a winery without any idea how to run it causes problems to her daughter and niece.

I guess I needed some real life tension in this book to be included. It just felt like everything related to this installment was going through the motions.
