Deep in the Ocean
Deep in the Ocean - Lucie Brunellière
The illustrations are stunning in this oversized board book. You can’t help but stop reading the text and marvel at the bright colorful world in the ocean. I don’t really care who is in the submarine or what it’s doing deep in the ocean, it’s the colorful fish and ocean life that’s portrayed in this book that has captured my attention.

After looking and reading this book over and over again, I have to wonder who would read this book. I am hoping many people don’t overlook it because it’s a board book and associate that with being a baby book because they would be missing out. The text in this book is far from being a baby book as the language is deep and not your typical baby language. Words such as cuttlefish, trench, vampire squid, abyss, paradise, and anemone are not typical language found in these types of books. The book will definitely catch the eye of a baby as it is bright and has lots of contrasting colors. The text is geared more towards a reader and/or the parent.

It’s a beautiful book that takes you under the ocean as you travel along side a submarine as it makes its way through the water. You will see an abundance of fishes, coral and other water plants as you turn the pages. The text explains exactly what you see from beluga whales, to sea butterflies, to lantern fish, to a huge blue whale, to dolphins, just to give you a few examples. As you read, try to find the items. I think you will find more items than the text describes. The illustrations are not cartoonish nor are they realistic photos but they provide enough detail to look realistic.

I think this would make a great book for families with children of different ages, as it would provide the text for older readers and the illustrations for everyone to enjoy. It would be a great read aloud as the illustrations are fantastic and the text is educational and enough to get children involved. Also, this would be a great book for a child to grow into. A wonderful book for the whole family.

This is the soundtrack that you are to listen to as you read the book- pretty sweet deal.

Review: Into The Drowning
Into The Drowning Deep - Mira Grant,Christine Lakin

This started out good, which is why  it got the two stars.

This was a great idea and concept, which was poorly executed in the end.  There were characters that were likeable enough that their deaths were dramatic and upsetting.  The dolphins... It was just gratuitous animal death for the sake of it.  That pissed me off to no end.  So I finished listening just to see if everyone deserving got their comeuppance and of course not.  The asshole big game hunters got theirs and the douchey ex died horribly. But the asshole who was responsible for the dolphins, he lived.

And the Doctor we liked and thought was the conservationist was actually an asshole who wanted to wipe the mermaids, who were actually sirens, off the face of the earth.  The ending was unsatisfying and I'm so disappointed that it started off good and interesting and ended so badly!  I mean it was like WWE Creative got a hold of this story and spun their magic.  And anyone who is familiar with WWE in recent years knows they start off a storyline great but it always ends in disappointment.

Ugh I'm so angry I'm definitely returning and getting my Audible credit back.

I am very close to nope'ing out of this book now. They're about to, basically, feed dolphins to killer mermaids.  People dying I'm okay with because they went into the mission knowing what might happen. The dolphins were kept in captivity and forced to go out into hostile open waters.

Ugh!

I'm just saying...

IF THIS DOESN'T END WITH THE MERMAIDS KILLING EVERYONE AND SURVIVING,  I'M GONNA BE PISSED!!!

Had to backtrack waaaaay back because I dozed off yesterday.  In my defense I'm fighting off a wicked cold which is aggravating my asthma.  I'm overdosing on decongestants, airborne, green juice and hot toddies (the best way to drink whiskey, imo).

So far I am really enjoying this. A missing ships full of people and footage showing the possibility of killer mermaids?!  My mermaid loving kid would probably hate it, but I'm here for it.  Thank goodness for audible daily deals which introduced me to this series!

And yes, I know, but it's the once piece of amazon's books I can't escape.  What can I say, they get a lot of exclusives.  I shame myself on the regular, lol!
