The research that went into pirates in this book.  At the very least they could've watched that episode of South Park about Somalian pirates but no....... (292).

Pg 184: Obviously, de la Cruz, Johnston, the editors at Penguin, never watched PBS's awesome Where in The World is Carmen Sandiego.  If they did, they'd know that the Arctic Sea is not off the California coast.  Really, it's not a difficult thing to realize.  You don't have to be an avid viewer or the show or runner up in their school's national geography bee to realize this like yours truly.  

Anyway, they so  didn't catch Carmen.
