Blurred Lines is the stuff of romance novels. It's dreamy, cheesy and delicious entertainment. Ethan lost his heart, the moment her met Spencer. Unfortunately Spencer is clueless to the way Ethan feels. Or is he? Blurred Lines is a story about being true to one's heart despite the odds. Ms. Andrews is a positive force for equal rights in love and laughter. The surprises are endless and the romance is timeless.

Changing Lines (Harrisburg Railers, #1) by R.J. Scott and V.L. Locey Review
Changing Lines (Harrisburg Railers Hockey Book 1) - RJ Scott,V.L. Locey

The Rowe Brothers are famous hockey hotshots, but as the youngest of the trio, Tennant has always had to play against his brothers’ reputations. To get out of their shadows, and against their advice, he accepts a trade to the Harrisburg Railers, where he runs into Jared Madsen. Mads is an old family friend and his brother’s one-time teammate. Mads is Tennant’s new coach. And Mads is the sexiest thing he’s ever laid eyes on.

Jared Madsen’s hockey career was cut short by a fault in his heart, but coaching keeps him close to the game. When Ten is traded to the team, his carefully organized world is thrown into chaos. Nine years younger and his best friend’s brother, he knows Ten is strictly off-limits, but as soon as he sees Ten’s moves, on and off the ice, he knows his heart could get him into trouble again.

Review

This is a bit of an odd read. Jared and Tennant are great characters. The hockey world building is well done and the cast is great.

The romance is sweet, hot, and steadfast. They deal with the age difference and the brother's friends troupe well. However, we miss a lot of the moments in the love story as they happen off stage and it keeps this book from really being a great romance.

I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Come and join the treasure hunt.
The Cryptic Lines - Richard Storry

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this book, The Black Talisman was a bit too dark for me, but The Cryptic Lines was excellent. In addition, I was very fortunate to have been listening to the audio version, narrated by Jake Urry, so the whole experience was just wonderful.

We meet Charles Seymour as he battles a storm to enter the rambling old house of Lord Alfred Willoughby. The old gentleman has made several alterations to his will over the years, and it is Charles's job to effect these changes into the ever-changing document.

Lord Alfred's wastrel son, Matthew, is the subject of the latest changes; he is to be dropped from the will. Unfortunately Lord Alfred dies suddenly, having just thrown his last will and testament into the fire. Charles has the job of going through the old man's documents, now that his client is effectively intestate.

He discovers that Lord Alfred has left his son one last chance, a 'treasure hunt', devised to allow Matthew the opportunity to prove that he can apply himself to a task and stick with it. A poem provides a series of clues to a hidden sapphire, if this is found within a specified time, then Matthew will inherit, if not, then all will be given to charity. To Charles's surprise, he, himself, is also included in this hunt, in competition with Matthew.

The two men decide to work together and thus ensues a mysterious unravelling of clues and rushing about the estate.

Needless to say, they do succeed, it wouldn't be much of a story otherwise, but the denouement really made this book for me and I will admit to a small tear in the corner of my eyes at one point.
If you have a spare Audible credit, I highly recommend this book in audio, the narration is perfect. I'm just so sorry it has ended. I think I shall be listening to this again in the future.

Reading progress update: I've read 20 out of 304 pages.
The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula K. Le Guin

Mother of all introductions!

LeGuin talks about what a sci-fi is supposed to be (she actually relegates that typical non-readers perception to a sub-field: "strictly extrapolative science fiction"), what a fiction writer is, and an artist, what sci-fi tries to tackle, truth, and words, and wow, lol.

I was about to add some bit of quote or other, and realized I have about ten from the intro alone.

Opening of the book then:

I'll make my report as if I told a story, for I was taught as a child on my homeworld that Truth is a matter of the imagination. The soundest fact may fail or prevail in the style of its telling: like that singular organic jewel of our seas, which grows brighter as one woman wears it and, worn by another, dulls and goes to dust. Facts are no more solid, coherent, round, and real than pearls are. But both are sensitive.

Defiance (Heart Lines Series Book 5) by Heather Hildenbrand
Defiance (Heart Lines Series Book 5) - Heather Hildenbrand

DEFIANCE by Heather Hildenbrand is an exciting addition to the Heart Lines Series. Sam’s story continues where book 4, IMBALANCE left off.  Sam discovered who Ea’s vessel is.  She is fighting over control of Hina and needs to prepare for the equinox.  Meanwhile, we discover what Alex’s role is in these events.  This contemporary urban fantasy is suitable for new adults.

DEFIANCE is thrilling and full of twists.  Alex and Sam have numerous trials and tribulations to overcome.  They discover interesting facts.  They learn things about themselves.  They face more than anyone should have to.   They are strong characters that you cannot help but like and admire.

Heather Hildenbrand does an amazing job keeping this series fresh, exciting and believable.  She is a creative story teller and skilled writer.  I am highly anticipating book six, EMERGENCE.  I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
