Great finds at the Book Corner in Philadelphia.
Yesterday was my 12th wedding anniversary. We went to the local Riverwind Casino to see Nick Offerman and his wife do a comedy concert. I put a dollar in an old fashioned slot machine and won $10. And I used my proceeds to buy that huge stuffed Seal from the casino gift shop. I named him Puffin. We left the casino and decided to swing by the Barnes and Noble that was on the way home. Omg...I had no idea it was the midnight release of Harry Potter. What clusterfuck. I was in my Tardis dress, so I got chased by nerds. There were wizards everywhere. Luckily, they were at the back of the store playing House Games and I found all I wanted up front. What a night.
BTW Nick Offerman is hilarious. And I give zero craps about Harry Potter.
I have cards for 3 library systems, 2 of which I use regularly.
My local branch in the larger system is my go-to. The system is huge, I can get just about anything sent here. And I also like to browse and pick random things off the shelves. New fiction, new nonfiction, popular fiction (trade paperbacks), and the regular stacks.
But the smaller system displays their new fiction face-out, rather than spine-out. I find this irresistible. While I can walk out of my branch with one new fiction book easily, I can't manage that in this other system.
Instead this happens. Will I read all of these? I don't know. I have heard of exactly one of these authors (ha ha—guess who?) and none of these titles.
Shiny new clean books. *sigh*
