Non-book post: Knives Out is on Prime now!

It's apparently been on Prime for a little over a week now. I haven't been using my streaming services much lately and hadn't noticed. Anyway, I rewatched it, and it was just as enjoyable the second time around. I got to worry less about Marta and just pay attention to how all the pieces came together.

If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend it if you're into traditional mysteries. Two bits of warning: there's on-screen vomiting (the one during the Big Reveal is so gross I just shut my eyes during both my first and second viewing) and one scene in which a spider walks across a person's face.

Non-book post: It never ends

While I was in the library working yesterday, someone scratched my back bumper and the side of my car. It would have made more sense if the parking lot was full, but it was mostly empty. Whoever it was must have been half blind, or really terrible at driving and/or parking. And of course they didn't leave a note.

So now I've got that to take care of, at some point during a pandemic that most of my town insists either isn't a big deal or is just flat-out a hoax.

Non-book post: Lolsob everything's breaking

One of my electrical outlets stopped working last night - even the test and reset buttons wouldn't work. But I lucked out and got the really good maintenance guy and it's fixed now.

Next up: internet problems. My speed dropped to about a sixth of what it should be last night before finally becoming nonfunctional. This morning, it was working again, but super slow. I now have an appointment tomorrow morning for someone to come by and hopefully fix it (could've done today, but I'm expected to be at the library), but with social distancing procedures it's going to be interesting to say the least. The company currently has a policy where they start with seeing whether it's an issue outside your building, and if it turns out to be something they'd normally have to go inside for, they'll leave equipment on your doorstep and then talk you through what to do over the phone. If you can't manage to fix it with help over the phone, they reschedule you for another visit "at a later date." Not sure when that'd be, or whether you'd still be expected to pay your normal internet bill in the meantime. Crossing my fingers really hard that it's an issue that can be fixed outside.

Non-book post: Protest tonight

My racist little town that had a KKK rally as recently as 2007 is having a Black Lives Matter protest tonight, and a lot of the discussions around it are horrifying. People against the protest don't seem to realize that they're the ones jumping instantly to threats of violence.

One thing I've noticed is that people seem to be fine talking about shooting protesters because they've already put them all in an Other category. "The protesters aren't people from around here, they're bused in from elsewhere. They're antifa." Everyone I know of who's going either lives in this area, grew up in this area, or otherwise has family and friends in this area. The organizer doesn't live here anymore, but he grew up here.

One thing I've started doing, anytime someone brings up "antifa" in their comments, is pretend I'm stupid and say something like "Oh wow, so you're pro-fascist?" It's been fascinating to me how many people don't realize that "antifa" is just an abbreviation for "anti-fascist" and not the organized terror group they seem to think it is.

Non-book post: Maintenance woes

A week ago, on Sunday, my air conditioning started leaking. A guy came and seemingly took care of the problem. Then it started leaking again this past weekend, and another guy came, spent two hours on it, and hopefully fixed it. Crossing my fingers.

And now my front door won't lock or completely close. Looks like a screw has come loose and I'm guessing it's stripped or something, because I can't tighten it. Either that or my wimpy hands just aren't strong enough. lolsob Here's hoping nothing else breaks. I took the rest of the day off work and am now sitting by the front door in case the wind, a stray cat, or whatever else tries to push it open. Just waiting for apartment maintenance to arrive. On the plus side, I guess this gives me time to read.
