My Bestie's Ex (The Rooftop Crew #1) by: Piper Rayne
My Bestie's Ex (The Rooftop Crew #1) - Piper Rayne

Awk-weird becomes adorably sweet. With a few bumps and bruises along the way. Piper Rayne pulls the frenemie card and sets emotions on fire. Blanca and Ethan are a joy to watch as they navigate through the storm of their feelings. Yet things turn salty a bit quick when a surprise revelation threatens to put the breaks on romance. Can love survive the drama of a woman scorned? My Bestie's Ex takes the heart on a turbulent journey of humor, heartache and maybe love. What a way to enjoy the ride.

ARC REVIEW Forever Strong by Piper J. Drake

Forever Strong (True Heroes, #6)True Heroes #6, Ever since Zu walked into the room with Buck in book 4, Total Bravery, I knew that this strong, silent, intimidating man would be my next book boyfriend. It was worth the wait because this book was fantastic. Piper J. Drake is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, top ten easily, she's already an autobuy author, as in if I see the book on the shelf and I don't have it I buy it. I love her diverse characters, especially the ones in the latter part of the series. This was an action-packed edge of my seat story I didn't want to put down. It is definitely one of my favorites in the series.

Jang Ying Yue was one of the people that Zu rescued from a cargo container in the last book, for this story arc I would recommend reading at least from book 4 although it can be read as a standalone. Ying Yue was kidnapped in Singapore and brought to Hawaii for ransom and to manipulate her father into doing something bad with his international, has government contracts, corporation. Zu feels a pull toward Ying Yue, he feels more protective over her than anybody else. She questions him about the decisions he makes so that she understands what he's doing and voices her concerns and her wants and needs and it just makes Zu like her even more. Even after rescuing her from the initial kidnapping they realize she's still not safe and Zu won't have anyone but himself and Buck protecting her. When the shit hits the fan, as it always seems to do, friends old and new come to lend a helping hand, and dog.

Overall, I'm gonna cry I think this is the last book of the series...Say it Ain't So! I really loved this series and Forever Strong (if it is the last book) is a strong finish to the series. I loved that she brought in all True Heroes and their people from the previous books. It is a well paced action with plenty of emotion and romance, loveable dogs and one pig. Definitely great reads.

Dear 2020, You Are Leaning on My Last Nerve
Death in the Air: The True Story of a Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City - Kate Winkler Dawson
An Extraordinary Union - Alyssa Cole
The Preacher's Promise - Piper Huguley

The news today has broken me - not any one news item, just all of it. So I am hunkering down tonight and tomorrow to read a mash up of historical true crime (serial killer!) and natural weather disaster to make me feel better OR to just ignore everyone. So my #FridayReads is Death in the Air.

After that it is back to An Extraordinary Union - which is a great book so far (I love the MCs as individuals and ohhhh the slow burn) but because it is set during the Civil War (in Richmond no less) I can't get myself to read more than a chapter a day or two chapters a day with space between the chapters to do something else. The writing is great and so are the MCs, but that time period is usually (99.9% of the time) one that I avoid. Not that present day US is any better, socially and/or politically....it's just a lot, so I am going a bit slow on it. In between chapters of AEU, I will try to work in The Preacher's Promise.

Have a good reading weekend!

Winter Weekend Read-a-thon
Courting Trouble - Deeanne Gist
Breathless - Beverly Jenkins
An Extraordinary Union - Alyssa Cole
Copycat Killing - Sofie Kelly
The Preacher's Promise - Piper Huguley

We are expecting a minor winter storm tonight that would last until tomorrow afternoon. So school may not be happening tomorrow; this adds to the holiday weekend and today my son stayed home from school sick.

Basically I'm in need of a sanity saver/keeper. Usually I would be doing the 24 in 48 read-a-thon, but since the organizers cancelled this round, I don't have that. So I am making my own read-a-thon. There will be no cutesy name or hashtag; it will happen just here on BL (fingers crossed it stays up) and on IG if I remember to do so. Just me and a goal of reading for most of the weekend (Friday to Sunday) and making a dent in a stack of books.

TBR for the Weekend:

1. Courting Trouble by Deeanne Gist

2. Breathless (Old West #2) by Beverly Jenkins

3. An Extraordinary Union (The Loyal League #1) by Alyssa Cole

4. Copycat Killing (Magical Cats #3) by Sofie Kelly

5. The Preacher's Promise (Home to Milford College #1) by Piper Huguley

If you need me, I will be in my blanket fort reading.

Confessions of a Naughty Nanny (The Baileys #6) by: Piper Rayne
Confessions of a Naughty Nanny (The Baileys #6) - Piper Rayne

He's lost his spark. She's caught his fire. When a little white lie ignites an explosive attraction, it's inevitable that someone is going to get burned. Phoenix and Griffin are quite a pair. The single dad who has lost his way and the dreamer hoping to make her dreams come true. When opportunity knocks neither is ready for the fireworks, but they're bound to enjoy the ride. Rayne struck a chord with the poet in me with Confessions of a Naughty Nanny. From sinfully, naughty to hilariously, funny and heartachingly, delicious, Phoenix and Griffin hit all the right notes with my heart.
