Mindwise: Why We Misunderstand What Others Think, Believe, Feel, and Want - Nicholas Epley

This book sound interesting and kind of correct about people.

The one annoying thing that I run into when I talked to other people is that it is quite frequently think they could "read" you when they simply don't or can't.

I have one friend that told me that he "understand me more than I understand myself". What I heard is that he prefer his own perception of me than really want to get to know me. And he think that his perception of me is more accurate than my own understanding of myself.

This short video would tell you otherwise.

I don't pretend I understand people. I don't. I only approach a friend and ask about him or her or them and let them tell what's going on in their minds themselves.

I trust their analysis more than perception, until there is evidence that the person is not truthful.

Mindwise: Why We Misunderstand What Others Think, Believe, Feel, and Want - Nicholas Epley

Someone post this on FB on this book

This book Mindwise by Nicholas Epley get a bit of mixed review. He teaches Society Psychology in Chicago. But how much of what he said is generation, how much is guessed work, and how much is good stuff?

Don't know.

The Guardian reviewer didn't like it that much.

http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/feb/07/mindwise-nicholas-epley-review

WSJ gives it a better review.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303973704579350623044044730

""Mindwise" is good reading for negotiators, the makers of public policy, heck, for anyone who interacts with other people, and that should be all of us. Mr. Epley is a genial, informative host in this tour of some of the most interesting findings in the social psychology of understanding one another, which he calls "mind-reading." His examples are drawn from the headlines as well as the peer-reviewed literature, and he keeps things going at a quick pace without dumbing-down the science. His geniality frays at times, such as when he presents scientific evidence that certain psychological factors, like solitude, cause us to hear voices or believe in a deity. Mr. Epley makes it clear that he thinks anyone who believes in God is making a grave error of reasoning."

That's I would agree on.

See for yourself.

Nicholas Nickleby - Charles Dickens,Mark Ford

I dislike Dickens. His books are popular and it is usually about persons who act out cruelly against the poor and the powerless.

As in any story world, the poor and the powerless get their strength for being good and then overcome the cruelty act from other people.

That's don't happen in real life. Most people are indifference. Some are cruel but not that obvious. And even if strong in characters, without luck, poor people continue to suffer.

No. I dislike this book, the story,  but the cast of this version of the movie is pretty good.

OK. It wasn't that bad. But really couldn't stand bad persons act out cruelty without much motivation.
