Love Tokens - Megan Derr Fun in a kooky sort of way. As with all of Derr's works, this one leans more towards the light and fluffy side, despite the apparent darkness of the subject. But it's still well-worked and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Although the ending was a bit rushed, it was nicely complete in and of itself and left me wanting more.

Love Tokens - Megan Derr 4 Hearts

This review was written for MM Good Book Reviews

Chanda is an incubus who owns the Honey Flower House, a house of pleasure, when a demon comes looking for a missing person Chanda quickly remembers why he avoids demons. Azar has been charged with finding a runaway who’s avoiding marriage, but what he finds instead is a most alluring incubus, now Azar has to convince Chanda to help find the runaway, and also to believe when Azar declares Chanda his.

This is a great short story that has a strong dash of passion and violence. Chanda has been badly burnt by a demon in the past, so when a demon comes to Honey Flower House looking for a runaway Chanda isn’t that inclined to help him but this demon makes Chanda feel things he wished he didn’t. Azar meets Chanda in his hunt for a missing person and becomes fascinated with the incubus, when Azar discovers that Chanda is demon shy he vows to punish the demon that hurt Chanda.

Ooohhh I love possessive demons who are bloodthirsty, they just send shivers down my spine, and when they are bloodthirsty for a love interest, I just want to snatch them up and keep them (they suit my nature *sniff*) Azar is a perfect example of a possessive bloodthirsty demon, the instant he meets Chanda he decides the incubus is his and he shows that determination throughout the story, even when Chanda is less than welcoming. Chanda is still stinging from his last brush with a demon, so as you can imagine he wants nothing much to do with Azar, but saying that there is a strong attraction between them.

So a story in kind of two parts, the first part is finding the missing person and the second is Azar getting Chanda to believe he is serious, the two are entwined really well and the conclusion for both stories is quite satisfying to those of us who are a bit gruesome… I particularly liked Azar’s love token to Chanda… okay fine I loved it, so I am strange lol. Megan Derr weaves a short story that is entirely satisfying, with enough world building and background that leaves you wanting more from this fantasy world.

I recommend this story to those who love high fantasy, great characters, a bloodthirsty demon, an alluring incubus, an interesting storyline, a bit of gruesomeness and a happy ending.

Love Tokens - Megan Derr Cole definitely wrote such a better and more insightful review of this story that I. It's not one of my favorite Megan Derr's shorts -- I'm not too fond of the demon's possessive attitude. It's a nice thing to have, but at the same time it is also a bit overused (shifters stories, mostly). Also the flow of the story (moving back and forth from Azar's posessiveness and attraction to Chanda to the case that they have to solve) is a bit rocky; it's not as smooth as the stories I love from her. Still I always love Megan Derr's ability to bring a different nuance, a different tone, to her stories, even the short ones.
