Women, Food, and Desire: Embrace Your Cravings, Make Peace with Food, Reclaim Your Body - Alexandra Jamieson
A Small Indiscretion - Jan Ellison
Dreaming Spies - Laurie R. King
The Glittering World - Robert Levy
Things Half in Shadow - Alan Finn

Hi Booklikers! Been MIA for a long while. I moved, the cable modem got lost in the process and I haven't had proper wi fi access. Hopefully everything will be sorted out in the next few days. In the meantime I thought I'd do a meme so you guys don't forget about me. :)

This one is hosted by Should be reading.

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

Here are my answers:

• What are you currently reading?

I'm excited to be reading The Witch of Painted Sorrows by MJRose. It's my second book I read from her and I'm enjoying it a little too much. Hope it stays that way till the end.

Also checking out Women, Food and Desire by Alexandra Jamieson. Interest take on how our cravings and how we react to them affect our health and well being.

• What did you recently finish reading?

Since I moved I've read like 8 books but most of them have been blah. The only memorable ones are The Glittering World by Robert Levy, whose genre I can't tell. It's a thrilling creepy and gross at times story about other beings around us. I liked it but didn't loooove it.

And the other one was Things Half in Shadow which is a book about spiritism, death, mystery, magic, mediums, etc. Great read. I quite liked it, because it was refreshing to read a story about this subject from a male point of view.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

Like I always say, I have to finish my ARCs, or I'll never get to request another book in this lifetime!  Next in line are Dreaming Spies and A Small Indiscretion. Hope they are as good as they look to be.

Have a great Wednesday fellow booklikers!

p.s. Don't you think the books I've chosen have pretty covers? They look so good on my shelf! hahaha

A griffin is born
Wednesdays in the Tower - Jessica Day George

I liked this book although not as much as I liked the previous one in the series – Tuesdays at the Castle. Here, the tale of Princess Celie and her family continues. They live in a Castle with a personality, a magical Castle which occasionally adds rooms, removes hallways, installs new towers and reroutes corridors without consulting or even informing its human denizens.
This time, the Castle is on a mission of profound change, and Celie, the Castle’s most beloved member of the royal family, is once again the heroine. She finds a griffin’s egg in one of the newest towers. In fact, the tower is so new that nobody could see it but Celie. Obviously, the Castle is very protective of its little griffin and it wants Celie to hatch and raise it… without telling anyone, especially not her parents or a visiting wizard.

A brooding, slightly sinister personage, that wizard, and Celie doesn’t like him from the beginning. So the griffin becomes their secret – Celie’s and the Castle’s. Keeping such a secret is not very hard to do: nobody believes in griffins anyway. They are a myth, right? That griffins are depicted on the kingdom’s coat of arms doesn’t mean a fig. Nobody has ever seen them in nature. Of course, as soon as it hatches, Celie does, the first person in several hundred years, and she instantly falls in love with her little (not really) protege.
The story starts slowly. In fact, despite the griffin escapade, I was getting bored and wanted to abandon the book until about 40% in. I started and stopped, then continued and stopped again. But I remembered the delight of the first book in the series and kept on reading. I was rewarded for my persistence. The tempo picked up eventually, and I read the rest of this short novel in one sitting.
As with the previous book, the author’s characters are alive and diverse, but she lavishes most of her attention on Celie – a charming protagonist, courageous, compassionate and very smart, despite being the youngest. Her family cherishes her. The griffin considers her his mother. And the readers adore her.
The book would’ve been better if it didn’t end in a cliffhanger. It feels like I only read the first half of the story, and then it was arbitrary cut off at the point where the real adventure starts. Maybe that’s why it was so slow to start, because the entire book is just the first act, setting the stage for what will happen next.
Now, I must read the next book.

Here are my answers:

• What are you currently reading?

On part 4 of my re-read of Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell.

I just started Nihal of the Land of the Wind (Chronicles of the Overworld, 1) - Licia Troisi and I can say I will enjoy this fantasy filled story. Started Lucky Us - Amy Bloom  but I'm still not sure I'll like this book that much.

I fell prey of the masses and am reading Outlander - Diana Gabaldon, I'm reading on weekdays and saturdays I'm enjoying the STARZ episodes. So far, the tv show is just as I imagined everything while reading.

I'm also reading The American Heiress - Daisy Goodwin . I'm taking my time with this one, because I still have to wait until september for the new Downton Abbey season, and this one is helping me with the DA withdrawal symptoms! ha ha ha

• What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished If I Stay - Gayle Forman..Had to check it out before the movie came out. I think the movie is too marketed as I didn't find the story to be the greatest love story of all times.

Also read  A Wedding in Provence: A Novel - Ellen Sussman  which was OK. Also not the greatest story of all times, but OK to pass the time.

Had a laugh with V!RG!N - Radhika Sanghani it's a fun book to read.

And I finished The House We Grew Up In - Lisa Jewell  which turned out to be a page turner and is so far the best book I've read this month. I couldn't put this one down. Highly recommend it.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

I always try to read a classic every month, but I haven't got to it. So I will try to start To the Lighthouse by Virgnia Woolf. It's the book of the month for one of my goodreads clubs.

I'll start a couple of novels from my ARC TBR and I also want to start the Stephanie Perkins Series. Hopefully I'll get to that next week.

Here are my answers:

• What are you currently reading?

Still in heaven re-reading Gone with the Wind.

I finally got to start new books! That makes me happy! :)
Learning how to be happy at work with Happy Hour is from 9 to 5. Good reference book.
Started to listen to Pandemonium, Sara Drew's voice is so nice to listen to.
Reading about cops and serial murderers in the 70's in Karin Slaughter's Cop Town.

• What did you recently finish reading?

Finished The City by Dean Koontz, Close Call by Stella Rimington, Beautiful Darkness and Dream Dark,  and finished The Bell Jar.

Enjoyed all those books, thankfully none of them turned out to be bad. They were actually a pretty good.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

I have to finish my ARCs, or I'll never get to request another book in this lifetime!  I think I'll choose the romances to balance all the action-packed mysteries and thrillers I've been reading. I'm going to finally start The American Heiress  tomorrow, because there's always tomorrow! :)

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

Here are my answers:

• What are you currently reading?

As you can see on my right bar --->still reading the same books.

I'm in heaven re-reading Gone with the Wind. I'm enjoying reading The City by Dean Koontz. I haven't read great reviews of this one. I'm 66% done with the book, hope it doesn't go downhill from here.

I'm also enjoying Close Call by Stella Rimington. If it ends well I think I will check out the other books in this series. Liz Carlyle is a cool woman to keep reading about.

I'm also having a great time listening to Beautiful Darkness. I didn't think I was that involved with Ethan's story until he met his mom and I said out loud: "Awwww Ethan!" ha ha ha Have a couple of hours left to listen.

Haven't touched The Bell Jar. Not that I didn't enjoy the first part I read, but I think that one deserves more than just 15 random minutes a day.

• What did you recently finish reading?

:( Nothing.  Haven't had much reading time so far this week, I would like to finish 3 books but I'm planning to finish at least 2 books this week.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

Still planning to read Hidden and The American Heiress. And I have a comedy in my ARCs. I think it would be a good thing to read after so much mystery.
